Queenslander Painters Brisbane.

Queenslanders are irreplaceable. They demand painters who understand timber movement, heritage colour palettes and the specific prep required to make a paint job last decades — not just seasons.

Empire Painting Queenslander restoration Brisbane

Tony's team has restored some of Brisbane's finest heritage homes — working on Queenslanders in Toowong, Indooroopilly, Chelmer and across the inner west. One restoration appeared on the cover of House & Garden magazine. That level of care and precision is what every Queenslander job gets.

Queenslander restoration starts with a thorough inspection — every weatherboard, every hardwood post, every set of louvres. We address rotten timber, nail pops, gaps and surface defects before any paint is applied. The right primer is critical on heritage timber, and we don't skip steps to save time.

Tony also offers authentic Queensland heritage colour consulting — drawing on period palettes to help you find a scheme that feels right for the era of your home and the character of your street.

Queenslander Restoration. Your questions.

How do you prep a Queenslander for painting?
We start with a full inspection, identifying any rotten or damaged timber that needs replacing. Then we hand-scrape and sand all loose paint, fill nail holes and gaps, spot-prime bare timber, and apply a full oil-based primer on unpainted or heavily stripped areas before topcoats.
What's the best paint for Queenslander weatherboard?
We typically use Dulux Weathershield with an appropriate primer system. On houses with heavy existing paint buildup, we may recommend a Cabot's or Dulux oil-based primer first for better adhesion and flexibility across seasonal timber movement.
How often does a Queenslander need repainting?
In Brisbane conditions, a quality exterior repaint should last 8–12 years with good surface prep. The north-facing elevation typically weathers fastest. We'll assess your specific home and give you an honest recommendation.
Can you match the original heritage colours?
Yes. We work with Dulux heritage colour palettes and Queensland period colour guides. Tony also offers digital overlays showing your home in various colour schemes before you commit.
Do you replace rotten timber or just paint over it?
We never paint over rotten timber. We replace or repair it first. Minor repairs are included in the painting quote; more significant structural repairs are quoted separately and flagged at the initial inspection.
Can you paint the interior of a Queenslander at the same time?
Absolutely. Many clients schedule both exterior and interior work together to avoid double the disruption. We'll stage the work to keep as much of the home usable as possible throughout.
How long does a full Queenslander restoration take?
A thorough exterior restoration of a full Queenslander typically takes 8–14 days including prep, priming, and topcoats. Larger homes or those requiring significant timber repair may take longer.
Do you work on Queenslanders with lead paint?
Yes. Houses built before 1970 may have lead-based paint. We follow safe work procedures for lead-containing surfaces in accordance with SafeWork Queensland guidelines, including appropriate containment and disposal.
