Faux Finishes. Your questions.

What faux finishes do you offer?
We offer marbling, sponging, rag-rolling, colour-washing, lime-washing, rusted-metal effects, Venetian plaster-look finishes, and Dulux AcraTex textured coatings. We can also develop custom effects — bring us your inspiration images.
Can faux finishes be applied to any room?
Yes, though the best applications tend to be feature walls, entrance halls, dining rooms, and heritage properties. We'll advise on which techniques work best for your specific wall conditions and room lighting.
How long does a faux finish take compared to standard painting?
Faux finishes typically take 1.5–2x longer per square metre than a standard repaint because each technique involves multiple passes. We'll give you a realistic timeline based on the specific effect and area size.
Are faux finishes durable?
Most faux finishes are as durable as standard paint when properly applied. Venetian plaster and AcraTex are particularly hard-wearing. We seal most faux finish walls with an appropriate clear coat for additional protection.
Can a faux finish be reversed or repainted over?
Yes. Most faux finishes can be covered with standard paint if you decide to change direction in the future. Some textured finishes (like Venetian plaster or AcraTex) are harder to remove but can be skim-coated and repainted.
What is Dulux AcraTex and who needs it?
Dulux AcraTex is an elastomeric coating system designed for masonry, render and concrete surfaces. It's ideal for rendered Queenslanders, brick homes and commercial buildings — it bridges hairline cracks, repels moisture and provides a textured, durable protective finish.
Do you do wallpaper installation as well?
Yes. Empire Painting also hangs wallpaper — paste-the-wall, traditional paste-the-paper and peel-and-stick options. We can strip existing wallpaper and prep walls before hanging.
How do I care for a faux-finished wall?
Most faux-finished walls can be gently cleaned with a damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners. We'll give you specific care notes for your finish type after completion.
