Common questions about lawn installation & re-turfing
How much does a re-turf cost?
Turf jobs are priced per square metre and include the supply of turf, removal and disposal of the old lawn, ground preparation and laying. Final price depends on turf variety, area size, how level the existing ground is, and access to the yard. We measure on site before quoting, and the quote breaks out turf cost, prep cost and labour so you can see what you're paying for.
What turf varieties do you lay?
The most common Brisbane choices for residential lawns: Sir Walter buffalo (soft, shade-tolerant, all-rounder), Empire zoysia (low-maintenance, slow-growing) and TifTuf bermuda (drought-tolerant, hard-wearing). Ivan can talk you through which suits your yard's sun, traffic and watering setup. Turf is sourced fresh-cut for the job — we don't lay slabs that have been sitting around.
How long does a re-turf take?
Most residential re-turfs are one to two days on site. Day one is removal of the old lawn and ground prep — levelling, removing debris, adding underlay soil where needed. Day two (or later in day one for smaller jobs) is laying and rolling the new turf. After we're finished, you take over the watering — the next two weeks of regular watering is the biggest factor in how well the lawn establishes.
What do I need to do after the new lawn is laid?
Water deeply every day for the first two weeks, then taper off as the roots take hold. Avoid heavy foot traffic for three to four weeks, and skip the first mow until the lawn has clearly anchored (a gentle tug on a corner shouldn't lift it). We leave you with a one-page care sheet specific to the variety we laid, and you can call any time if something doesn't look right.
Can you fix bare patches without a full re-turf?
Yes — for small bare or worn patches we can do a patch-and-repair with matching turf rather than replacing the whole lawn. We'll only suggest a full re-turf if the existing lawn has more dead than living grass, or if it's the wrong variety for the conditions and won't recover.
What time of year is best for laying turf in Brisbane?
Spring and early autumn are ideal — warm soil, regular rain, less heat stress. That said, turf can be laid year-round in Brisbane with the right watering. The slowest establishment is in mid-winter; the trickiest is mid-summer because of how often you need to water. Ivan can recommend timing if you're flexible.
