Common questions about hedge trimming & pruning
How do you price hedge trimming?
Hedges are priced per visit based on length, height and how overgrown the hedge is when we start. A taller hedge that needs a ladder or pole-saw will cost more than a low boundary hedge you could trim with kitchen shears. The first trim of an unmanaged hedge is usually a one-off ‘reset’ visit, and after that we can keep it on a regular cycle for less per visit. We give the price before we start.
How often should hedges be trimmed in Brisbane?
Most Brisbane hedges look their best with two to three trims a year — typically late spring, mid-summer and early autumn — though fast-growing varieties like murraya or lilly pilly may want a fourth trim. Ivan can recommend a cycle once he's seen the hedge. Many of our long-term customers have been on the same hedge schedule for years and the shape just gets better each season.
Will you take the green waste away?
By arrangement, yes. For small trims we can usually fit the clippings into your green bin if there's room. For bigger reset trims we bring the trailer and take everything offsite for an additional removal fee, which we quote upfront based on volume. Either way, the site is left clean — no piles of cuttings on the verge.
Can you reshape an overgrown hedge that's lost its shape?
Yes. Overgrown hedges can almost always be brought back into shape, though it sometimes takes two visits over a couple of months — the first to cut hard back to a sensible line, and the second after the hedge has put on enough new growth to even out. We'll talk through what's realistic before we start, especially for hedges that have been left for a few years.
What hedges and shrubs do you work on?
Common Brisbane hedges and shrubs — murraya, lilly pilly, viburnum, photinia, gardenia, buxus, conifers, and ornamental natives. We also do general shrub pruning and shape-up work on roses, frangipani and small ornamental trees. If you're not sure whether something falls under hedging or arborist work, send us a photo and we'll let you know.
How long will the trim take?
Most residential hedges are done in one visit of one to three hours depending on length. We'll give you a time window when we book and call ahead on the day so you know roughly when we'll arrive. You don't need to be home — as long as we can get to the hedge, we can do the work and message you when it's done.
