Repair or replace — honest advice either way

When a hot water system fails, the first question is whether it is worth repairing or due for replacement. The answer depends on the age of the unit, what has actually gone wrong, and whether parts such as valves or elements are the issue rather than the tank itself.

We will look at your system, tell you honestly what we find, and give you an upfront quote for the options. Sometimes a valve or element replacement gives a system years of further life; other times a unit is at the end of its run and a replacement is the better spend. Either way, you decide with the full picture in front of you.

Installation sized to your home

If a new system is the right move, we install hot water units sized to suit the household or business. The right size and type matters — too small and you run out, too large and you pay to heat water you do not use. We also service and replace hot water system valves, which are a common and often inexpensive cause of problems.

All of our hot water workmanship carries our 12-month warranty, and we will explain any separate manufacturer warranty on the unit itself.

Hot Water Systems FAQ

Your questions, answered

Should I repair or replace my hot water system?+
It depends on the age of the system and what has failed. If the tank itself is sound and the problem is a valve, element or thermostat, a repair is often well worth it and can add years of life. If the unit is old and the tank is leaking or corroded, replacement is usually the better long-term spend. We will inspect your system, tell you honestly what we find, and give you an upfront quote for both paths where that makes sense, so the decision is yours with the full picture.
What types of hot water systems do you work with?+
We work with the common hot water system types found in Brisbane homes and businesses, including the repair and replacement of units and their valves. When a system needs replacing we help you choose a unit sized to suit your household so you are not paying to heat water you do not use, or running out at the wrong moment. If you are unsure what you currently have, our plumber can identify it on site.
How long does a hot water system last?+
A hot water system's lifespan depends on the type, the water quality and how well it has been maintained, but many give a good number of years of service before replacement. Valves and elements may need attention along the way well before the tank itself does. If your system is getting older, it is worth having it looked at before it fails completely, so you can plan a replacement rather than be caught without hot water.
My hot water has stopped — what should I do?+
First, check whether it is an isolated issue — for an electric system, check the switchboard; for a gas system, check the pilot and gas supply. If nothing obvious has changed, give us a call and describe what is happening, including the age and type of the unit if you know it. A failed hot water system can sometimes also leak, so if you see water pooling around the unit, turn off the water supply to it and treat it as more urgent.
Can you install a new hot water system?+
Yes. We install new hot water systems for homes and businesses, sized and selected to suit the property and the way hot water is used there. Our plumber will talk through the options with you, provide an upfront quote, and carry out the installation to a proper standard. The workmanship is covered by our 12-month warranty, and we will explain any separate manufacturer warranty that applies to the unit.
How is hot water work priced?+
As with all our work, you receive an upfront quote before anything starts. For a repair, that reflects the parts and labour involved once we have diagnosed the fault; for a replacement, it covers the new unit and installation. We will not start work or order a unit without you knowing the cost first, and where a repair-versus-replace decision is involved we will quote the options so you can choose.
Do you service hot water valves?+
Yes. Hot water system valves — including temperature and pressure relief valves — are a common cause of problems such as dripping, pressure issues or a system not heating correctly. They are also often a relatively inexpensive fix compared with replacing a whole unit. We service and replace hot water valves as part of our hot water work, and will tell you honestly when a valve repair is all that is needed.
