Frequently asked questions

Everything customers ask us about emergency plumbing, blocked drains, hot water, renovations and commercial work — in one place.

General

Which areas do Aussie Plumbers cover?+
We are based in Hawthorne and service the greater Brisbane region, including the Brisbane City Council, Logan City Council and Redland City Council areas, as well as Ipswich and the Gold Coast. Our plumbers travel in stocked vehicles so they can cover a wide area and still complete most jobs in one visit. If you are not certain whether your suburb is within our service area, get in touch with your location and we will let you know straight away before anything is booked in.
Are you available for emergency plumbing?+
Yes. We have a plumber on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to assist with emergency after-hours work. During office hours your call comes straight through to the team, and outside those hours the phone diverts to one of our plumbers so a real person can help. Burst pipes, major leaks and blocked toilets do not wait for business hours, so neither do we. If you have an urgent problem, call us and we will talk you through what to do while help is on the way.
Are your plumbers licensed?+
Yes. Aussie Plumbers has a team of licensed plumbers servicing the greater Brisbane region. Plumbing and drainage work in Queensland must be carried out by a licensed plumber, and we take that seriously across both domestic and commercial jobs. If you would like to confirm licensing details for your particular job, just ask when you contact us and we are happy to talk it through before any work begins.
How does your pricing work?+
We believe in being upfront about cost. Before any work starts, our plumber will provide you with an upfront quote so there are no unexpected charges later. Pricing depends on the job in front of us rather than a fixed figure over the phone, which is why we look at the work first. Our reputation is built on competitive pricing and honest service, and several of our customers mention that we do not load every job with call-out fees and hourly-rate surprises.
Do you offer a warranty on your work?+
Yes. All of our workmanship carries a 12-month warranty, with the exception of general wear and tear and blocked drains that were cleared but not repaired at the source. We are confident in the standard of our work and stand behind it. If something is not right with a job we completed, contact us and we will come back and make it right. We are happy to explain exactly what the warranty covers for your specific job before we begin.
Do you offer a discount for seniors?+
Yes. We offer a senior discount to all Queensland seniors card holders. If you hold a valid Queensland seniors card, let us know when you contact us or when our plumber arrives, and the discount will be applied to your job. It is part of how we look after the local community we work in across Brisbane, Logan and the Redlands.
Do you handle both domestic and commercial plumbing?+
Yes. We work across both the domestic and commercial plumbing industries. For homes that means everything from leaking taps and hot water systems through to bathroom renovations. For businesses that includes commercial maintenance and commercial construction such as sewer and stormwater drainage, water services, bathroom fit-offs and scheduled preventative maintenance. Whatever the property, the same focus on quality workmanship and clear quoting applies.
How do I get a quote?+
The easiest way is to fill in the contact form on this site with a few details about the job, your suburb and the best time to reach you. You can also call us directly during office hours. For many jobs our plumber will provide an upfront quote before starting work, and larger jobs may begin with a quick look at the property so the quote reflects the real scope. Either way, you will know the cost before we begin.

Emergency Plumbing

How quickly can you get to an emergency?+
We aim to reach genuine emergencies as quickly as possible, and our plumbers travel in stocked vehicles so they can respond and repair in one visit wherever practical. When you call, we will give you an honest estimate of how soon we can be there based on where you are and what else is in front of us. One of our customers describes calling at 3pm and having their drain unblocked and the area cleaned up before 5pm the same day. If there is a wait, we will tell you, and we will talk you through how to limit any damage in the meantime.
What counts as a plumbing emergency?+
A plumbing emergency is anything where water or sewage is escaping and causing damage, or where a household has lost an essential service. Burst pipes, major leaks, water through a ceiling, an overflowing or blocked toilet, sewage backing up, and a complete hot water failure all qualify. If you can safely isolate the water and the problem can wait, it may be better handled as a standard booking. If you are not sure, call us and describe what is happening and we will give you straight advice.
Are you available after hours and on weekends?+
Yes. We have a plumber on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. During office hours your call comes through to the team; outside those hours the phone diverts to one of our plumbers so you always reach a real person rather than a message bank. Weekends, public holidays and the middle of the night are all covered, because that is when many of the worst plumbing problems happen.
How does pricing work for emergency call-outs?+
As with all our work, our plumber will give you an upfront quote before starting so there are no unexpected charges. Emergency and after-hours work is quoted on the job in front of us rather than a fixed phone figure. We have built our reputation on honest, competitive pricing, and customers regularly mention that we do not bury every job in call-out fees and hourly-rate surprises. You will know what the repair involves before we begin.
What should I do while I wait for the plumber?+
In most cases the single most useful thing is to turn off the water. For an isolated fixture there is often a small tap behind or beneath it; for a bigger leak, turn off the mains tap at your water meter. If water is near power points or the switchboard, keep clear and turn off power at the board if it is safe to do so. Move valuables away from any water, and put down towels or a bucket. When you call us we will talk you through the right steps for your situation.
Do you cover burst pipes and major leaks?+
Yes. Burst pipes and major leaks are among the most common emergencies we attend. We will locate the source, isolate the water and carry out the repair, and where a leak is hidden we use leak detection to find it without unnecessary damage. Because our vehicles are stocked, most burst-pipe repairs can be completed in the same visit so your water is back on as soon as possible.
Which areas do you cover for emergencies?+
We respond to emergencies across the greater Brisbane region, including the Brisbane City Council, Logan City Council and Redland City Council areas, with coverage extending toward Ipswich and the Gold Coast. If you are unsure whether your suburb is within reach, call us with your location and we will let you know straight away.

Blocked Drains

What causes a blocked drain?+
The most common causes are tree roots finding their way into pipe joints, a gradual build-up of grease, soap and debris, foreign objects that should never have been flushed, and older pipes that have cracked or partially collapsed. Stormwater drains often block with leaves and silt. The cause matters, because a blockage from roots or a damaged pipe will return if only the surface is cleared. That is why we inspect the line rather than guessing.
How do you clear a blocked drain?+
For most blocked drains we use a high-pressure water jet rod machine, which cuts through roots, grease and build-up and scours the inside of the pipe far more thoroughly than a hand tool. Before or after clearing, we can run a drain inspection camera through the line to confirm it is clear and to see what caused the problem. The approach is matched to the drain — a blocked toilet, a kitchen sink and a main sewer line each call for a slightly different method.
Do you use a camera to inspect drains?+
Yes. Drain inspection using a camera is one of the most useful tools we have. It lets us see inside the pipe without digging, identify exactly where and why a drain is blocking, and check the condition of the line. If there is a cracked or root-damaged section, the camera shows it clearly, so any recommendation we make about repairing the pipe is based on what is actually there rather than guesswork.
Can a blocked drain come back?+
It can, if the underlying cause is not addressed. A drain blocked by tree roots or a damaged section of pipe will block again once roots regrow or debris catches on the damage. Clearing the blockage restores flow immediately, but if our camera inspection shows a root intrusion or a broken pipe, we will explain that and recommend a repair so the problem is solved properly rather than temporarily.
Do you clear blocked toilets and sinks too?+
Yes. Blocked toilets, kitchen sinks, bathroom basins, showers and floor wastes are all everyday work for us, along with main sewer and stormwater drains. A blocked toilet in a one-bathroom home is treated as a priority because it leaves the household without an essential service. Whatever is blocked, we will clear it and let you know if anything more than a clean-out is needed.
How is a blocked drain quoted?+
Our plumber will give you an upfront quote before starting work, so you know the cost of clearing the drain before we begin. If a camera inspection then shows the pipe itself needs repair — for example a root-damaged or collapsed section — that is quoted separately and only after we have shown you what we found. You are never committed to extra work without seeing the reason for it first.
Does the workmanship warranty cover blocked drains?+
Our 12-month workmanship warranty covers the plumbing work we carry out. It specifically excludes blocked drains that were cleared but not repaired at the source — because if a drain blocks again due to roots or a damaged pipe that you chose not to have repaired, that is a continuation of the original cause rather than a fault in our work. If we repair the pipe itself, that repair is covered. We will always explain clearly what is and is not covered for your job.

Hot Water Systems

Should I repair or replace my hot water system?+
It depends on the age of the system and what has failed. If the tank itself is sound and the problem is a valve, element or thermostat, a repair is often well worth it and can add years of life. If the unit is old and the tank is leaking or corroded, replacement is usually the better long-term spend. We will inspect your system, tell you honestly what we find, and give you an upfront quote for both paths where that makes sense, so the decision is yours with the full picture.
What types of hot water systems do you work with?+
We work with the common hot water system types found in Brisbane homes and businesses, including the repair and replacement of units and their valves. When a system needs replacing we help you choose a unit sized to suit your household so you are not paying to heat water you do not use, or running out at the wrong moment. If you are unsure what you currently have, our plumber can identify it on site.
How long does a hot water system last?+
A hot water system's lifespan depends on the type, the water quality and how well it has been maintained, but many give a good number of years of service before replacement. Valves and elements may need attention along the way well before the tank itself does. If your system is getting older, it is worth having it looked at before it fails completely, so you can plan a replacement rather than be caught without hot water.
My hot water has stopped — what should I do?+
First, check whether it is an isolated issue — for an electric system, check the switchboard; for a gas system, check the pilot and gas supply. If nothing obvious has changed, give us a call and describe what is happening, including the age and type of the unit if you know it. A failed hot water system can sometimes also leak, so if you see water pooling around the unit, turn off the water supply to it and treat it as more urgent.
Can you install a new hot water system?+
Yes. We install new hot water systems for homes and businesses, sized and selected to suit the property and the way hot water is used there. Our plumber will talk through the options with you, provide an upfront quote, and carry out the installation to a proper standard. The workmanship is covered by our 12-month warranty, and we will explain any separate manufacturer warranty that applies to the unit.
How is hot water work priced?+
As with all our work, you receive an upfront quote before anything starts. For a repair, that reflects the parts and labour involved once we have diagnosed the fault; for a replacement, it covers the new unit and installation. We will not start work or order a unit without you knowing the cost first, and where a repair-versus-replace decision is involved we will quote the options so you can choose.
Do you service hot water valves?+
Yes. Hot water system valves — including temperature and pressure relief valves — are a common cause of problems such as dripping, pressure issues or a system not heating correctly. They are also often a relatively inexpensive fix compared with replacing a whole unit. We service and replace hot water valves as part of our hot water work, and will tell you honestly when a valve repair is all that is needed.

General Plumbing & Maintenance

What does general plumbing cover?+
General plumbing and maintenance covers the everyday work that keeps a property running: leaking and dripping taps, running or leaking toilets, water pumps, rainwater tanks, hot water valves, and the supply and repair of fixtures throughout the home or business. It also includes installation work such as new taps, toilets, vanity units, shower heads, basins, sinks, mixers and garbage disposal units. If it involves the water in your property and it is not an emergency or a renovation, it generally falls under general plumbing.
Can you fix a leaking tap or toilet?+
Yes — these are among the most common jobs we do. A dripping tap or a toilet that keeps running wastes a surprising amount of water and quietly adds to your bill, and both are usually straightforward to fix. Our plumber will identify whether it is a washer, a valve, a worn part or the fixture itself, give you an upfront quote, and carry out the repair. In many cases it is completed in the same visit.
Do you install and repair water pumps and rainwater tanks?+
Yes. Water pumps and rainwater tanks are part of our general plumbing work. We install, repair and replace water pumps, and we handle rainwater tank plumbing including the connections that feed water into and out of the tank. If a pump has stopped or a tank is not delivering water the way it should, our plumber can diagnose the cause and quote the repair before starting.
How do you price general plumbing jobs?+
Every general plumbing job is quoted upfront before work begins, so there are no unexpected charges. Because jobs vary — a single tap washer is very different from replacing several fixtures — we look at the actual work rather than quoting a fixed figure blind over the phone. Our reputation is built on competitive, honest pricing, and you will always know the cost before we start.
Do you do scheduled maintenance?+
Yes. Alongside one-off repairs, we carry out preventative and scheduled maintenance, which is particularly valuable for businesses and for landlords managing properties. Regular checks catch small problems — a worn valve, an early leak, a struggling pump — before they become disruptive or expensive. Talk to us about what a maintenance schedule could look like for your property.
Will you give me a quote before starting?+
Always. Before any work begins, our plumber will provide you with an upfront quote so you can avoid unexpected charges. This applies to the smallest tap repair as much as to a larger job. If something unforeseen comes to light once work is underway, we stop and talk to you about it rather than simply pressing on and adding to the bill.
Do you cover both houses and units?+
Yes. We carry out general plumbing and maintenance for houses, units, townhouses and commercial premises across the greater Brisbane region. The plumbing principles are the same; the access and layout differ, and our plumbers are used to working in all of them. If you are in a unit or strata property and are not sure how a repair should be arranged, we can talk you through it.

Bathroom & Kitchen Renovations

Do you do the plumbing for a full bathroom renovation?+
Yes. We handle the plumbing side of a full bathroom renovation, from the rough-in stage — setting up water supply and waste connections while the walls and floor are open — through to the final fit-off, where the toilet, vanity, shower, taps and other fixtures are installed and connected. Getting the rough-in right is what makes the finished bathroom work properly, so it is worth having a licensed plumber involved from the planning stage rather than at the end.
Can you install bathroom and kitchen fixtures I've bought?+
Yes. If you have already chosen and purchased your fixtures — toilet, taps, vanity, basin, shower head, sink, mixers — we can install and connect them as part of the renovation. If you would still like advice on what works well and what to avoid, we are happy to share what we have learned from installing these fixtures across many Brisbane homes. Either way, the installation is done properly and is covered by our workmanship warranty.
Do you work with builders and tilers on a reno?+
Yes. Renovation plumbing is coordinated work, and we are used to working alongside builders, tilers, cabinet makers and other trades so the plumbing fits the overall program. The rough-in needs to happen before tiling and lining; the fit-off happens once surfaces and cabinetry are in. We will work in with the schedule so the renovation flows rather than stalls waiting on the plumber.
What plumbing is involved in a kitchen renovation?+
A kitchen renovation typically involves the sink and its waste, the kitchen mixer tap, connections for a dishwasher and sometimes a fridge water line, and often a garbage disposal unit. If the kitchen layout is changing, the water supply and waste pipes may need to be relocated to suit the new bench and cabinet positions. We handle all of this and coordinate it with the cabinet installation so everything lines up.
How is renovation plumbing quoted?+
Renovation plumbing is quoted upfront, based on the scope of the work — how many fixtures, whether pipework is being relocated, and the stages involved. For a renovation it is often best for us to look at the plans or the space so the quote reflects the real job. You will have a clear quote before work begins, and if the scope changes during the renovation we talk to you about it rather than simply adding to the bill.
Do you handle laundry renovations?+
Yes. Laundries involve their own plumbing — the tub and its tapware, washing machine connections, and floor waste drainage — and they are often renovated alongside a bathroom or kitchen. We handle laundry plumbing as part of renovation work, whether it is a standalone laundry update or part of a larger project.
Do you provide a warranty on renovation plumbing?+
Yes. Our renovation plumbing workmanship carries a 12-month warranty, like all of our work. Renovation plumbing is largely hidden behind walls and under floors once the room is finished, which is exactly why it needs to be done correctly the first time by a licensed plumber. If an issue arises with plumbing work we carried out, contact us and we will put it right.

Commercial Plumbing

What commercial plumbing work do you do?+
We cover both commercial maintenance and commercial construction. On the maintenance side that includes fault finding and repairs, preventative and scheduled maintenance, and general commercial plumbing services. On the construction side it includes sewer drainage systems, stormwater, hot water systems, water services and bathroom fit-offs. Whether you need an ongoing maintenance arrangement or plumbing for a new or upgraded premises, our licensed plumbers can take it on.
Do you do commercial plumbing maintenance?+
Yes. Commercial maintenance is a core part of our work. That ranges from responding to a specific fault through to ongoing preventative and scheduled maintenance for a property. Planned maintenance helps catch small problems before they interrupt trade, and we can work in with your operating hours so the work is as unobtrusive as possible. Talk to us about what a maintenance arrangement could look like for your premises.
Can you handle commercial construction plumbing?+
Yes. Our commercial construction work includes sewer drainage systems, stormwater, hot water systems, water services and bathroom fit-offs for new and upgraded commercial premises. These are the systems a building relies on every day, and they need to be installed correctly by licensed plumbers. We provide an upfront quote based on the scope of the project, and for construction work it is usually best for us to review the plans or the site.
Do you do scheduled and preventative maintenance?+
Yes. Preventative and scheduled maintenance is one of the most valuable things a commercial property can put in place. Regular checks find worn valves, early leaks and developing drainage problems before they become an emergency that stops you trading. We can set up a maintenance schedule suited to your premises and the way it is used, and carry it out with minimal disruption to your business.
How is commercial plumbing priced?+
Commercial plumbing is quoted upfront, based on the scope of the work. For maintenance that may be a per-visit or scheduled arrangement; for construction it reflects the project scope and is usually quoted after we have reviewed the plans or site. As with all our work, you will know the cost before we begin, and our pricing is built on a reputation for being competitive and honest.
Which areas do you cover for commercial work?+
We provide commercial plumbing across the greater Brisbane region, including the Brisbane City Council, Logan City Council and Redland City Council areas, with coverage extending toward Ipswich and the Gold Coast. If your business is outside the immediate Brisbane area, contact us with the location and the scope of the work and we will let you know whether we can help.
Do you do fault finding and repairs?+
Yes. Fault finding and repairs are a regular part of our commercial work. When something is not working as it should — a leak with no obvious source, a drainage problem, a hot water or water-service fault — we investigate, identify the cause and carry out the repair, with an upfront quote before the work begins. For commercial clients we know that diagnosing the problem quickly and accurately is what gets you back to normal operation soonest.
