Blocked Drains

A slow or blocked drain rarely fixes itself. Our plumbers clear blocked drains, sinks and toilets, inspect the line with a camera and treat the cause — not just the symptom.

A slow or blocked drain rarely fixes itself. Our plumbers clear blocked drains, sinks and toilets, inspect the line with a camera and treat the cause — not just the symptom.

Find the cause, not just the blockage

A drain blocks for a reason — tree roots, a build-up of grease or debris, a collapsed section of pipe or simply something that should never have gone down it. Clearing the surface blockage without understanding why it happened often means it returns within weeks.

We use drain inspection cameras to look inside the line and see exactly what is going on, then clear the blockage with a high-pressure jet rod machine that cuts through roots and build-up. Once the line is clear we can show you what caused it and recommend whether a repair to the pipe itself is worthwhile.

Blocked toilets, sinks and stormwater

Blocked drains are not limited to the main sewer line. We clear blocked toilets, kitchen and bathroom sinks, floor wastes, and stormwater drains that overflow in heavy rain. Gutter and downpipe blockages that send water where it should not go are part of the same picture, and we handle those too.

Whatever is blocked, our plumber will give you an upfront quote before starting, so you know what clearing the drain involves before any work begins.

Blocked Drains FAQ

Your questions, answered

What causes a blocked drain?+
The most common causes are tree roots finding their way into pipe joints, a gradual build-up of grease, soap and debris, foreign objects that should never have been flushed, and older pipes that have cracked or partially collapsed. Stormwater drains often block with leaves and silt. The cause matters, because a blockage from roots or a damaged pipe will return if only the surface is cleared. That is why we inspect the line rather than guessing.
How do you clear a blocked drain?+
For most blocked drains we use a high-pressure water jet rod machine, which cuts through roots, grease and build-up and scours the inside of the pipe far more thoroughly than a hand tool. Before or after clearing, we can run a drain inspection camera through the line to confirm it is clear and to see what caused the problem. The approach is matched to the drain — a blocked toilet, a kitchen sink and a main sewer line each call for a slightly different method.
Do you use a camera to inspect drains?+
Yes. Drain inspection using a camera is one of the most useful tools we have. It lets us see inside the pipe without digging, identify exactly where and why a drain is blocking, and check the condition of the line. If there is a cracked or root-damaged section, the camera shows it clearly, so any recommendation we make about repairing the pipe is based on what is actually there rather than guesswork.
Can a blocked drain come back?+
It can, if the underlying cause is not addressed. A drain blocked by tree roots or a damaged section of pipe will block again once roots regrow or debris catches on the damage. Clearing the blockage restores flow immediately, but if our camera inspection shows a root intrusion or a broken pipe, we will explain that and recommend a repair so the problem is solved properly rather than temporarily.
Do you clear blocked toilets and sinks too?+
Yes. Blocked toilets, kitchen sinks, bathroom basins, showers and floor wastes are all everyday work for us, along with main sewer and stormwater drains. A blocked toilet in a one-bathroom home is treated as a priority because it leaves the household without an essential service. Whatever is blocked, we will clear it and let you know if anything more than a clean-out is needed.
How is a blocked drain quoted?+
Our plumber will give you an upfront quote before starting work, so you know the cost of clearing the drain before we begin. If a camera inspection then shows the pipe itself needs repair — for example a root-damaged or collapsed section — that is quoted separately and only after we have shown you what we found. You are never committed to extra work without seeing the reason for it first.
Does the workmanship warranty cover blocked drains?+
Our 12-month workmanship warranty covers the plumbing work we carry out. It specifically excludes blocked drains that were cleared but not repaired at the source — because if a drain blocks again due to roots or a damaged pipe that you chose not to have repaired, that is a continuation of the original cause rather than a fault in our work. If we repair the pipe itself, that repair is covered. We will always explain clearly what is and is not covered for your job.
