/ FAQ

The questions customers actually ask.

If you can't find the answer here, give us a call on 0800 939 274 — we'd rather you ask than guess.

General

Do you cover all of Auckland?

Yes. Our mobile units serve every Auckland suburb — South Auckland, East Tamaki, Penrose, Onehunga, North Shore, West Auckland and the CBD — and we cover Hamilton and the wider Waikato region too. The Manukau wash bay is open 7 days for anyone who'd rather drive in.

What are your opening hours?

Monday to Friday 6am–5pm, Saturday and Sunday 8am–3pm. Our 24/7 emergency oil spill response runs outside those hours too — call 0800 WE WASH any time, day or night.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Powerwash carries full public liability and contractor insurance suitable for industrial, commercial and transport work. Our team operates within WorkSafe NZ-aligned health and safety systems, and we can provide certificates of currency for your contractor pre-qualification.

What payment methods do you accept?

EFTPOS at the Manukau bay for one-off jobs, and trade accounts for fleet customers — invoiced monthly. Talk to us about opening a trade account; most customers find it simpler than per-visit billing.

How do I get a quote?

For a written quote: ring us on 0800 939 274, send a message through the contact form on this site, or email us. For larger jobs like a fleet programme or building wash, we'll arrange a free site visit before quoting — no obligation.

Do you offer warranties or rework?

Yes. Every wash is backed by professional standards, and if you're not happy with the finish let us know — we'll come back and fix it. Reasonable expectations apply (we can't restore paint that's been etched by sun and chemicals over years), but the workmanship itself is guaranteed.

Mobile Truck & Fleet Wash

Do you cover the whole of Auckland?

Yes. Our mobile units travel across the greater Auckland region — including South Auckland, East Tamaki, Penrose, Onehunga, North Shore and West Auckland — and into Waikato. If you have a fleet anywhere between Manukau and Hamilton, we can put you on a wash schedule that fits your operations.

How often should I have my trucks washed?

It depends on the work the fleet does and the image you want presented. Most of our customers run a weekly or fortnightly programme; some go monthly. We'll talk through what suits your sites and let you set the cadence — and changing it later is no drama.

Do you wash overnight or on weekends?

Yes. Our scheduling is flexible 24/7 so we can wash when your trucks are stationary. That usually means evenings, overnight or weekends — whatever keeps your gear out of the line and on the road during work hours.

Is the wastewater handled properly?

Yes — and this is non-negotiable for us. Every mobile unit carries an onboard wastewater reclamation system that captures every drop. Nothing enters drains or waterways. We can provide details of our environmental compliance for your site induction or auditor on request.

Are you insured for working on our yard?

Yes. Powerwash carries full public liability and contractor insurance, and our team is backed by robust health and safety systems. We can provide certificates of currency and our SWMS for your contractor pre-qualification.

What payment methods do you accept?

EFTPOS for one-off washes at our bay, and we run trade accounts for fleet customers — usually invoiced monthly. Talk to us about an account application and we'll set you up.

Can you wash heavy machinery and trailers too?

Yes. We wash trucks, trailers, motorhomes, plant machinery and heavy equipment. If it's dirty and it rolls (or doesn't), we can clean it. Talk to us about your specific gear and we'll confirm the right wash programme.

Manukau Truck Wash Bay

Where exactly is the wash bay?

We're at 8 Norman Spencer Drive, Papatoetoe (Manukau), Auckland 2104 — right in the middle of South Auckland's transport belt, easy to get in and out for trucks and trailers. There's signage at the gate and room to manoeuvre a B-train if you need to.

Do I need to book a wash, or can I just drive in?

Both work. Most drivers just drive in during open hours and join the queue — service is fast and we work efficiently. For larger jobs (full underbody steam clean, de-tar, B-train interior clean-out) we recommend a quick phone call first so the right team is on hand when you arrive.

What are your opening hours?

Monday to Friday 6am–5pm, Saturday and Sunday 8am–3pm. We're closed on the major public holidays. If you need an after-hours wash for a special job, give us a call and we'll see what we can arrange.

How long does a standard wash take?

A standard exterior hand wash on a truck cab and trailer is usually around 25 to 40 minutes depending on the size and how dirty it is. Underbody steam cleans and interior trailer clean-outs take longer — we'll give you a clear time estimate when you arrive.

Can you wash motorhomes and large RVs?

Yes — and we do, regularly. The bay is sized for trucks, so motorhomes and large RVs fit comfortably. Bring it in during open hours; we'll wash inside and out and have you ready for your next trip.

Can I open a trade account?

Yes. Trade accounts are available for fleets and regular customers — we'll invoice you monthly instead of paying per visit. Drop us an email at sales[at]powerwash.nz or ask the team next time you're in the bay.

Is there somewhere to wait while my truck is washed?

Yes — there's a driver waiting area with a coffee setup. Most drivers grab a coffee, catch up on paperwork or take a quick break while we work. The team will let you know when you're good to go.

Steam Clean, Pre-COF & De-Tar

What is a pre-COF underbody clean and why do I need it?

Before a truck goes for its Certificate of Fitness inspection, the underbody needs to be clean enough for the inspector to actually see and check the chassis, brakes, suspension, fuel and air lines. A pre-COF underbody steam clean removes mud, oil, brake dust and road grime so the inspection can run smoothly without faults raised purely for visibility reasons.

Can you remove tar and bitumen from my truck?

Yes — this is one of the things we're best known for. Hot tar and bitumen are messy, sticky, and time-consuming to remove by hand. We use specialist solvents and a proven process to lift it off cleanly without damaging the paint underneath. It's much faster and cheaper than asking your team to do it.

How do you handle the wastewater from a steam clean?

Our bay is set up with proper wastewater management — captured, contained, and disposed of through compliant channels. Nothing enters the stormwater system. If your fleet manager or auditor needs documentation, just ask and we'll send it through.

Do I need to book a steam clean in advance?

Yes, please. Steam-clean jobs and de-tar work take time and need the right operator on shift, so it's best to ring ahead a day or two so we can slot you into the schedule. Walk-ins are sometimes possible but a booking guarantees you a slot.

How long does an underbody steam clean take?

A pre-COF underbody steam clean on a standard truck and trailer usually takes around 90 minutes to two hours, depending on how built-up the underbody is. We'll give you a realistic time estimate when you book — and we work as fast as we can without cutting corners on the finish.

Are your prices competitive?

We're confident we have the best rates in Manukau for steam cleaning, pre-COF and de-tar. Call or email us with the size of your truck and trailer and we'll give you a firm quote — no surprises when you arrive.

24/7 Oil Spill Clean-Up

How fast can you actually respond to a spill?

Our Rapid Response Team is dispatched as soon as the call comes in — typical response time across the greater Auckland region is well under an hour, often inside 30 minutes for urgent jobs. For Hamilton and Waikato spills, allow a bit longer for travel; we'll give you a realistic ETA the moment you ring through.

Are you available outside business hours?

Yes — 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including weekends and public holidays. Spills don't keep office hours, so neither do we. Call 0800 WE WASH any time and you'll get through to someone who can dispatch the team straight away.

Can you handle hazardous chemical spills?

Yes. Our team is trained and equipped for both hazardous and non-hazardous spills, including hydraulic oil, diesel, petrol, paint and other automotive chemicals. When you ring, tell us what's spilled and we'll bring the right containment and absorbents for that specific substance.

Do you provide documentation for our compliance records?

Yes. We document every callout — what was spilled, the area affected, how it was contained, what materials were used, and how the waste was disposed of. You get a written record you can drop straight into your environmental compliance file or hand to council or insurance if it comes up.

What happens to the contaminated material?

Captured spill material is transported off site by Powerwash and disposed of through licensed hazardous-waste channels — never into stormwater, never into a regular landfill bin. We can show you exactly where it ends up if your auditor asks.

Will the spill response damage the surface?

No. We use the right absorbents and cleaning methods for the surface — asphalt, concrete, gravel, indoor flooring — so the underlying material is cleaned, not eaten away. Where there's already staining we'll be honest about whether it can be fully removed or only minimised.

How much does an emergency spill callout cost?

Cost varies with the size of the spill, the substance involved, the time of day, and how much disposal is required. We don't quote spill responses in advance because every job is different, but we'll explain how we charge before we start work and give you a written quote afterward.

Industrial Building Washing

Do you work on roofs and at height?

Yes — and only after the right safety plan is in place. Roof and high-cladding work needs a Safe Work Method Statement, the right access (cherry picker, scissor lift or harnessed roof access), and a trained operator. We don't shortcut this; we'll quote and schedule the job around getting the safety setup right.

How disruptive is industrial washing to operations?

Most of our customers schedule the work for evenings, weekends or planned shutdown periods so it doesn't interrupt production. We can also work alongside operations if site procedures allow — we'll talk through what suits your operation and tailor the timing in the quote.

What's involved in a free site visit?

A no-obligation visit usually takes 30 to 60 minutes. We'll walk the building with you, check access, water supply, sensitive areas (electrical, ventilation intakes, plant) and any specific concerns. Then we write up a fixed itemised quote so there are no surprises before you book.

Can you wash food-grade or cold-storage facilities?

Yes. Food processing and cold storage have stricter cleaning protocols — we use approved chemistry, control runoff carefully, and follow your facility's own food-safety and biosecurity rules. Talk to us about the specific compliance regime your site operates under and we'll match it.

What does the safety documentation cover?

We provide a Risk Assessment and Method Statement (RAMS) or Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS) before each job, listing the hazards, controls, PPE, equipment and emergency procedures. Our team is inducted to your site and we sign in and out like any other contractor.

How long does a typical warehouse wash take?

A standard warehouse exterior wash usually takes one to three days depending on size, height and how dirty it is. Yard areas and gutters add time. We'll give you a clear schedule with the quote and update you if anything changes during the job.

Are you insured for this kind of work?

Yes. Powerwash carries public liability and contractor insurance suitable for industrial and commercial work, and we can provide certificates of currency for your contractor pre-qualification system. Ask when we quote and we'll have it in your inbox the same day.
