Hedge Trimming work in Brisbane
What's included

How Nick approaches hedge trimming.

Restoring a sharp line through an overgrown formal hedge is one of our most-requested jobs. We bring the height, depth, and face back to a clean line, clear the base, and tidy the surrounds so the hedge reads cared-for from the gate.

For mature box hedges, lilly pilly, murraya, or photinia that have been left a season or two, the difference after one visit is dramatic. For maintenance-cycle hedges, every 8–12 weeks during the growing season holds the shape.

All clippings removed as part of the job — hedge cuttings are too coarse to leave on site.

Common questions

Asked a lot. Answered straight.

Can you trim formal hedges back into shape?

Yes — restoring a clean line through an overgrown formal hedge is one of our most-requested jobs in Paddington and the inner-west. We bring the height, depth, and face back to a sharp line, clear the base of weeds and growth, and tidy up the surrounds so the hedge reads cared-for from the gate. For mature box hedges, lilly pilly, or murraya that have been left a season or two, the difference after one visit is dramatic.

How often should hedges be trimmed?

Most formal hedges in Brisbane benefit from a trim every 8 to 12 weeks during the growing season (spring through to autumn) and a single tidy through winter. Less than that and you're chasing a wild shape every time; more than that and you're spending money you don't need to. We'll work out the right rhythm for your specific hedge type and the line you want to keep — slower-growing buxus might be twice a year, fast-growing murraya is closer to four.

Will you take the hedge clippings away?

Yes — for hedge work we always remove clippings as part of the job. Hedge cuttings are coarse and visible, and leaving them in place looks unfinished. The removal cost is included in the per-visit quote so there's nothing extra to think about.

Do you handle very tall hedges?

Up to about 4 metres we handle on standard ladders and platforms, which covers most established residential hedges in Paddington and surrounding suburbs. For anything taller — multi-storey screening hedges, large institutional plantings — we'll quote the job and bring the right equipment for safe access. We'll be honest if a particular job is better handled by an arborist; some over-mature hedges need different gear than maintenance trimming.

What's the best time of year to reshape a neglected hedge?

For most Brisbane hedge species (lilly pilly, murraya, buxus, photinia), late winter into early spring is the ideal window for a hard reshape — the plant has the strongest growth ahead of it to recover the cut. Light maintenance trims can run year-round. We'll let you know when we look at the hedge whether a hard reshape is what's needed or whether a regular maintenance schedule will get it back to where you want.

Can you remove a section of hedge entirely?

Yes — partial removal, gap-cutting, and full hedge removals are all part of what we do. Removal is quoted separately from trimming because of the disposal volume and the labour involved in stump and root work. We'll talk through whether removal or hard-reset trimming is the better option for what you're after — sometimes a tired hedge can be brought back rather than replaced.
