Wall Tiling Specialists

Wall tiling is where style meets function. Avid Tiling installs wall tiles for feature walls, bathroom and kitchen wet areas, laundries, and full exterior cladding across Brisbane.

Adhesion is everything with wall tiles. We assess each substrate — whether it's existing plaster, cement sheet, or a newly framed wall — and select the correct adhesive system for the tile weight and exposure. For wet areas, waterproofing is applied and cured before tiling commences.

Large-format wall tiles and book-match stone panels are a growing trend in Brisbane bathrooms. These require careful planning of tile placement and grout lines before installation begins — Adam always marks the layout on the wall before adhesive goes down.

Frequently Asked Questions

Wall Tiling — Common Questions

What wall substrate works best for tiling?

Fibre cement sheet (Villaboard, Aquachek) is the preferred substrate for wet areas. Plasterboard (Gyprock) can be tiled in dry areas only. We assess the existing substrate at quote time.

Can wall tiles be installed on top of existing tiles?

Yes, in many cases. The existing tiles need to be firmly bonded and the wall needs to be structurally capable of taking the additional weight. We'll assess on-site.

How do you handle grout lines on a feature wall?

For feature walls, many clients opt for minimal grout lines (1–2mm) to achieve a seamless look. We mark out the entire wall layout before cutting a single tile to ensure symmetrical coverage.

Do you tile external walls?

Yes. External wall tiling requires weather-resistant adhesive and grout, and often a concrete substrate rather than sheet. We provide written specifications for external work.

How do you tile around power points and plumbing?

We cut tiles precisely around existing fixtures using an angle grinder or wet saw. All cuts are planned as part of the layout so no cuts appear less than half a tile wide.

What's the best grout width for wall tiles?

It depends on the tile type. Rectified tiles can go as narrow as 1mm; handmade or natural stone tiles often look best with 3–5mm grout lines. We discuss this at the quote stage.
