Questions about licensed gasfitting

Before you book.

Why do I need a licensed gasfitter?

In Queensland, all gas work — installation, repairs, alterations, decommissioning — is restricted to licensed gasfitters under the Petroleum and Gas (Production and Safety) Act. Unlicensed work voids your home insurance, can void appliance warranties, and is dangerous: gas leaks cause fires, explosions and carbon monoxide poisoning. We carry the right licences so the certificate of compliance you receive after the job is genuine and recognised by your insurer.

Can you connect a new gas cooktop or oven?

Yes — gas cooktops, ovens, BBQs, instantaneous hot water units, and ducted heaters are all in our wheelhouse. We size the supply pipework to match the appliance's gas-load rating, install the appropriate isolation valve, pressure-test, and issue a Form 4 compliance certificate at completion. If you're upgrading from electric to gas we can handle the new line-run from the meter, and the carpentry behind it if cabinetry needs adjusting.

Do you handle gas leak detection?

Yes — if you smell gas inside or near the house, treat it as urgent. Ventilate, kill ignition sources, and call our 24-hour line straight away. We use electronic gas detectors and pressure-decay testing to find leaks at fittings, regulators, supply lines, and inside appliances. Once located we either repair-and-pressure-test or recommend appliance replacement, depending on the cause.

How much does it cost to run a new gas line?

It depends on the run length, whether the pipework is internal or external, what's between the meter and the appliance (concrete, walls, ceilings), and whether the meter has spare capacity. A short external run from a wall-mounted meter to a cooktop is at the cheaper end; a long internal run with multiple appliances can be a multi-day job. We'll give you a written fixed-price quote after a site visit, never sticker-shock at invoice time.

What's a Form 4 and do I need one?

A Form 4 is the Certificate of Test and Compliance issued at the end of any gas installation or alteration in Queensland. It documents that the work meets AS/NZS 5601 and the gas regulations. Yes, you need one whenever gas pipework is added, altered or replaced — your insurer or the next buyer of the property may ask for it, and we lodge a copy with the Petroleum and Gas Inspectorate. We provide it as a PDF after every job.

Can you decommission an old gas line?

Yes — we cap and pressure-test old gas lines when an appliance is removed (e.g. swapping gas cooktops to induction), and we issue the appropriate compliance documentation. Don't leave a disconnected gas line uncapped under any circumstances; even if no appliance is connected, a degraded line is a leak waiting to happen.
