Questions about hot water systems

Before you book.

My hot water has stopped — can you come today?

In most cases yes — a no-hot-water call placed in the morning during a normal weekday usually gets a same-day visit. If you're on gas and you can smell gas, treat it as urgent and ring our emergency line straight away. For electric units, switch the breaker off at the meter board if you suspect water has tracked into the wiring and we'll diagnose from there.

How long does a hot water system installation take?

A like-for-like swap (gas-for-gas or electric-for-electric, same location, same fuel) is typically a half-day job. Changing fuel type, relocating the unit, or upgrading from a small storage tank to a continuous-flow gas system can stretch into a full day because of new pipework and electrical work. We'll give you a realistic time estimate when we quote, including the disconnection and removal of the old unit.

Should I repair my old hot water system or replace it?

Rule of thumb: if the unit is under eight years old and the failure is a single component (element, thermostat, valve), repair almost always wins on cost. Past ten years, with rising gas and power prices, you're often better off putting that repair money toward a more efficient new unit that'll last another decade. We'll give you the honest call when we look at it — including manufacturer-warranty status.

Do you install gas, electric, and heat-pump hot water?

Yes — we install and service all three: instantaneous and storage gas, electric storage (off-peak and continuous), and heat-pump systems where the household demand suits one. We work with the major Australian brands (Rinnai, Rheem, Bosch, Vulcan, Dux, Sanden) and stock common parts on the truck so straightforward repairs don't need a return visit.

Is there a rebate available on a new hot water system in Queensland?

Federal small-scale renewable energy certificates (STCs) apply to qualifying solar and heat-pump systems, and the value comes off the upfront price as a point-of-sale discount when we install through accredited suppliers. Rebate amounts move with the market — we'll quote the net price after STCs so you see the real out-of-pocket. Rebates change over time, so don't assume yesterday's number is today's.

What does a hot water service call typically include?

For storage units we drain and check the sacrificial anode, flush sediment, check element and thermostat operation, and pressure-test the relief valves. For continuous-flow gas, we check the burner, gas pressure, water flow, and ignition. We finish with a hot-tap flow test and write up any wear items so you can plan ahead — preventative maintenance is much cheaper than a 7pm-on-a-Sunday emergency.
