Frequently asked questions

Plumbing questions, answered.

Everything Brisbane and Logan customers usually ask M&W Plumbing — from licensing and pricing to how each of our services works.

General questions

Which areas does M&W Plumbing cover?

M&W Plumbing is based in Paddington and services homes and businesses right across the Brisbane and Logan regions, including the inner-west and inner-north suburbs. If you're nearby and not certain we reach you, just call and ask — we'll give you a straight answer.

What are your business hours?

Our standard hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm. We're closed Saturday and Sunday. If you have an urgent plumbing problem outside those hours, call us and explain what's happening — we'll do our best to help and let you know honestly when we can get to you.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. M&W Plumbing holds a Queensland-certified plumbing and drainage licence (QBCC Licence 15010152) and carries insurance. Using a licensed plumber makes sure the work meets Queensland standards and protects your home or business.

How does your pricing work?

We give you an upfront quote before work begins, so you know the cost in advance. For larger jobs we assess the site first rather than quoting blind over the phone. Either way there are no hidden extras — if something changes once work is underway, we talk to you before going ahead.

How do I book a plumber?

Call us on 0494 088 285 or send your details through the contact form on this site. Let us know what's happening and roughly where you are, and we'll get back to you and book a time that suits.

Do you handle both residential and commercial work?

Yes. M&W Plumbing works on both homes and commercial premises — from a leaking tap or a bathroom renovation to commercial fit-outs and maintenance. Tell us about your job and we'll let you know how we can help.

What should I do in a plumbing emergency?

If water is flowing where it shouldn't be, turn off the water at the mains to limit damage, then call us. For a gas concern, don't use the appliance and ventilate the area. Phone us on 0494 088 285 and we'll talk you through what to do next.

Will you leave the job site clean and tidy?

Yes. We treat your property with respect and leave the work area tidy when we're finished. It's something our customers regularly mention in their Google reviews — we see a clean finish as part of doing the job properly.

Commercial Plumbing

Do you work around our business hours?

Yes. We know commercial plumbing can't shut your business down, so we plan the work around your trading times wherever possible — including early starts where that suits the site. When we first speak we'll talk through your hours and agree a schedule that keeps disruption to your customers and staff to a minimum.

How does pricing work for commercial jobs?

Every commercial job is different, so we assess the site before we quote rather than giving a number over the phone. Once we've seen the scope, you get a clear, written quote covering the work involved. There are no hidden extras — if something changes once work is underway, we talk to you before going ahead.

Are you licensed and insured for commercial work?

Yes. M&W Plumbing holds a Queensland-certified plumbing and drainage licence (QBCC Licence 15010152) and carries insurance. We're happy to provide those details to property managers or building owners who need them for their records.

Can you handle ongoing maintenance for our premises?

We can. Many commercial clients prefer a plumber who knows their site, so we're glad to be your regular point of contact for repairs, checks and small works. Get in touch and we'll talk through what ongoing support would look like for your premises.

Do you cover both Brisbane and Logan commercial sites?

Yes. We're based in Paddington and service commercial premises right across the Brisbane and Logan regions. If your site sits a little outside those areas, give us a call and we'll let you know if we can help.

What types of commercial properties do you work on?

We work on a range of commercial premises — shops, offices, hospitality venues and similar sites. If you're unsure whether your property suits our team, call us with the details and we'll give you a straight answer.

How quickly can you respond to a commercial issue?

We treat business interruptions seriously and aim to get to commercial issues as quickly as our schedule allows. Call us, describe what's happening, and we'll let you know the soonest we can be on site.

Plumbing Renovations

Do you work with our builder and other trades?

Yes. Renovation plumbing has to dovetail with the builder, tiler and waterproofer, and we're used to coordinating those handovers. We'll line up our rough-in and fit-off around the other trades so the project keeps moving and nothing has to be redone.

How is renovation plumbing priced?

We assess the scope of your renovation before quoting, because pricing depends on the layout, the number of fixtures and how much pipework needs to move. Once we've reviewed the plans or seen the space, you get a clear written quote covering the plumbing stages.

Can you help choose where fixtures go?

We can offer practical advice on fixture placement from a plumbing point of view — what's straightforward, what adds cost, and what will work best long term. The final design choices are yours, but we'll flag anything worth knowing before the walls close up.

Do you supply the tapware and fixtures?

We can coordinate fixture supply, or install items you've chosen yourself. Many clients like to pick their own tapware and basins for the look they want — just let us know early so we can make sure everything is compatible with the rough-in.

How long does renovation plumbing take?

It depends on the size of the renovation and how it's staged with the other trades. Plumbing usually happens in two visits — rough-in early, then fit-off near the end. We'll give you a realistic timeline once we understand the full scope.

Are you licensed for renovation work?

Yes. M&W Plumbing holds a Queensland-certified plumbing and drainage licence (QBCC Licence 15010152). Renovation plumbing must be done by a licensed plumber, and we're happy to provide our licence details for your records.

Do you renovate kitchens as well as bathrooms?

Yes. We handle the plumbing for both bathroom and kitchen renovations — relocating sinks, dishwasher connections, tapware and waste lines. Tell us what you're planning and we'll talk through the plumbing involved.

Residential Plumbing

How do you charge for home plumbing jobs?

We give you an upfront quote before we start, so you know the cost before any work goes ahead. For smaller jobs we can often quote once we've seen the problem; for larger work we'll assess it properly first. Either way, there are no hidden extras.

Can you come out for a small job like a leaking tap?

Absolutely. No job is too small — a leaking tap or running toilet is exactly the kind of everyday work we do. Small problems also tend to get worse and waste water, so it's worth getting them sorted early. Give us a call to book a time.

Do you offer after-hours or urgent help?

Our standard hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm. If you have an urgent plumbing problem, call us and explain what's happening — we'll do our best to fit you in as soon as possible and let you know honestly when we can get there.

Which areas do you cover for residential work?

We're based in Paddington and service homes right across Brisbane and Logan, including the inner-west and inner-north suburbs. If you're nearby and not sure whether we reach you, just ask.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. M&W Plumbing holds a Queensland-certified plumbing and drainage licence (QBCC Licence 15010152) and carries insurance. Using a licensed plumber protects your home and makes sure the work meets Queensland standards.

Can you find a leak if I'm not sure where it is?

Yes. If your water bill has jumped or you can see damp patches but not the source, we can investigate and locate the leak before repairing it. Catching a hidden leak early saves water and prevents damage to your home.

How do I book a plumber?

Call us on 0494 088 285 or send your details through the contact form and we'll get back to you. Let us know what's happening and roughly where you are, and we'll book a time that suits you.

Will you clean up after the job?

Yes. We treat your home with respect and leave the work area tidy when we're done. Several of our customers mention this in their reviews — we think leaving a clean job is just part of doing it properly.

Water Heater Installation

How do I know if I need a new hot water system?

If your unit is leaking, running out of hot water quickly, or making unusual noises, it's worth having it looked at. We'll assess whether a repair will get more life out of it or whether a replacement is the better value option, and explain the reasoning so you can decide.

What size or type of system should I choose?

That depends on your household size, how much hot water you use and the space available. When we visit we'll talk through the options and recommend a system that suits your home. The choice is yours — we just make sure you have the information to make it.

How is hot water installation priced?

Pricing depends on the system you choose and the work involved in fitting it — for example, whether the new unit goes in the same spot as the old one. We give you an upfront quote covering supply and installation before any work begins.

Can you replace my old unit with the same type?

Yes. If you're happy with your current type of system, we can supply and install a like-for-like replacement, which is often the most straightforward option. We'll let you know if there's a good reason to consider an alternative.

Do you repair hot water systems as well as install them?

Yes. Not every hot water problem needs a new unit. We can diagnose faults and carry out repairs where the system is worth keeping, and give you honest advice when replacement is the smarter call.

Are you licensed to install hot water systems?

Yes. Hot water installation must be carried out by a licensed plumber, and M&W Plumbing holds a Queensland-certified plumbing and drainage licence (QBCC Licence 15010152). We install every system to the required standard.

How quickly can you replace a failed hot water unit?

We understand being without hot water is disruptive, so we aim to get to failed units as quickly as our schedule allows. Call us, tell us what's happening, and we'll let you know the soonest we can have hot water back on.

Drainage Solutions

How do I know if I have a drainage problem?

Common signs are water pooling on your property after rain, soggy ground that never quite dries out, or water running toward your home rather than away from it. If you're seeing any of those, it's worth having the drainage assessed before it causes damage.

Can you fix a blocked drain?

Yes. We can clear blocked drains and, just as importantly, work out why the blockage happened. If there's an underlying issue — like a damaged or poorly graded pipe — we'll explain what's needed so the problem doesn't simply return.

How is drainage work priced?

Drainage jobs vary a lot depending on the site, so we assess the property before quoting. Once we understand what's needed — new pipework, a pit, or clearing an existing run — you get a clear, upfront quote with no hidden extras.

Will drainage work make a mess of my yard?

Drainage work often involves trenching, so there's some disturbance, but we plan the job to keep it as contained as possible and tidy up properly afterwards. We'll talk you through what to expect before we start so there are no surprises.

Can you help with stormwater from a new build or renovation?

Yes. If you're building or renovating, we can install stormwater drainage to suit the new layout and connect it correctly. Get in touch early so the drainage can be planned in alongside the rest of the work.

Do you cover Brisbane and Logan for drainage jobs?

Yes. We're based in Paddington and carry out drainage work across the Brisbane and Logan regions. If your property is nearby, give us a call and we'll confirm we can help.

Are you licensed for drainage work?

Yes. Drainage work must be done by a licensed plumber and drainer. M&W Plumbing holds a Queensland-certified plumbing and drainage licence (QBCC Licence 15010152), so your drainage is installed correctly and to standard.

Water Filter Installation

What kind of water filter should I choose?

It depends on what you want from it — better taste, filtering at one tap, or treating water across the whole home. When we visit we'll talk through the options and recommend a system that fits your household and budget, and leave the decision with you.

How is water filter installation priced?

Pricing depends on the system you choose and how it connects into your existing plumbing. We give you an upfront quote covering supply and installation before we begin, so there are no surprises.

Can you install a filter for the whole house or just one tap?

Both. Some households just want filtered water at the kitchen tap, while others prefer a system that treats water across the whole home. We can install either — just let us know what you're after.

How often do the filters need replacing?

That varies by system and how much water you use. When we install your filter we'll show you how to check it and let you know roughly how often the cartridge needs changing, so it keeps performing well.

Can you install a filter system I've already bought?

Yes. If you've already chosen a system, we can install and connect it correctly. It's worth checking with us first that it's compatible with your plumbing — send us the details and we'll let you know.

Are you licensed to do this work?

Yes. Connecting a filtration system into your plumbing should be done by a licensed plumber. M&W Plumbing holds a Queensland-certified plumbing and drainage licence (QBCC Licence 15010152), so it's installed safely and correctly.

Will a water filter affect my water pressure?

A properly sized and installed system shouldn't noticeably affect your pressure. Part of choosing the right filter is making sure it suits your home's flow, which is something we'll consider when we recommend a system.

Sewer Line Repair

What are the signs of a sewer line problem?

Common signs include slow or gurgling drains throughout the property, unpleasant smells, or wastewater backing up. If you're noticing several of these at once, it points to the main line rather than a single fixture, and it's worth having it looked at promptly.

How do you find the cause of a sewer issue?

We investigate before we repair. Rather than guessing, we work out what's actually causing the problem — a blockage, a damaged section, or root intrusion — so the repair addresses the real cause and the issue doesn't simply come back.

How is sewer line repair priced?

Sewer repairs vary depending on the cause and the location of the problem, so we assess it before quoting. Once we know what's involved, you get a clear, upfront quote. If anything changes once work is underway, we talk to you first.

Will repairing the sewer line dig up my whole yard?

Not necessarily. The amount of excavation depends on where the problem is and how the line is laid. We aim to keep disruption contained, explain what's involved before we start, and tidy up properly when the work is done.

Can you help if the problem keeps coming back?

Yes. Recurring sewer problems usually mean the underlying cause hasn't been addressed. We'll investigate properly and recommend a repair that fixes the root issue, rather than just clearing it again and waiting for it to return.

Do you handle sewer repairs for businesses?

Yes. Sewer problems are especially disruptive for businesses, so we plan the work to minimise downtime and get your premises operating again as quickly as possible. Call us and we'll talk through the situation.

Are you licensed for sewer and drainage work?

Yes. Sewer and drainage work must be carried out by a licensed plumber and drainer. M&W Plumbing holds a Queensland-certified plumbing and drainage licence (QBCC Licence 15010152).

Roof Plumbing

How do I know if my roof needs attention?

Water stains on ceilings, damp in the roof space, overflowing gutters in rain, or visible damaged tiles are all signs worth acting on. Roof issues tend to get worse quietly, so an inspection is a good idea if you've noticed any of these.

What does a roof inspection involve?

We carry out a thorough inspection to identify potential issues before they become costly problems — checking tiles, gutters, flashings and water flow. We then explain what we've found and recommend what, if anything, needs doing.

How is roof plumbing work priced?

It depends on what the inspection turns up. After we've assessed the roof and gutters, you get a clear, upfront quote for the work involved. There are no hidden extras — if we find something else once we're working, we talk to you first.

Can you clear my blocked gutters?

Yes. Blocked gutters stop water flowing away properly and can lead to overflow and damage. We clear gutters and check why they blocked, so we can flag anything — like damaged guttering or poor fall — that's making the problem worse.

Can you fix a roof leak?

Yes. We locate the source of roof leaks — which isn't always where the water shows up inside — and repair the cause, whether that's damaged tiles, failed flashing or a gutter issue. Fixing leaks early prevents structural damage.

Should I have my roof checked regularly?

A periodic check is sensible, especially before storm season. Our inspections are designed to catch potential issues early, when they're simple and inexpensive to fix, rather than after water has already got inside.

Are you licensed for roof plumbing?

Yes. Roof plumbing is licensed work, and M&W Plumbing holds a Queensland-certified plumbing and drainage licence (QBCC Licence 15010152). Your roof and gutter work is done correctly and to standard.

Gas Line Installation

Can you install a gas line for a new appliance?

Yes. Whether it's a cooktop, hot water unit or other gas appliance, we can install the gas line and connect it safely. Let us know what you're connecting and where, and we'll talk through what's involved.

Do you do gas work for commercial kitchens?

Yes. We have the expertise to install gas lines for commercial kitchens and industrial equipment, not just domestic appliances. Get in touch with the details of your site and equipment and we'll discuss the job.

How is gas line installation priced?

Pricing depends on the run of the line, the appliance or equipment being connected and the site. We assess the job and give you a clear, upfront quote before any work begins.

Is gas work safe to do yourself?

No — gas work should only ever be carried out by a licensed professional. Incorrectly installed gas lines are dangerous. M&W Plumbing installs and tests gas lines properly so they're safe to use.

Are you licensed for gas work?

Yes. Gas work in Queensland must be done by an appropriately licensed professional. M&W Plumbing carries the licensing required for the gas work we carry out, and we're happy to provide our details.

Will you test the gas line after installation?

Yes. Once a gas line is installed we test it to make sure it's safe and working correctly before we hand it over. We won't leave a gas job until we're confident it's right.

Can you relocate an existing gas line?

Yes. If you're renovating or moving an appliance, we can relocate gas lines to suit the new layout. Talk to us early in your project so the gas work can be planned in properly.
