Hatha Yoga //

The original yoga — body, breath and mind together.

Hatha yoga is the classical foundation from which most modern styles derive. The name means union of sun and moon — a balanced practice that works with postures, breathwork and relaxation as a single integrated discipline.

What Hatha yoga involves

Lee's classes combine three classical elements in each 90-minute session:

  • Gentle stretches and postures (asana) — to release tension from the body, improve alignment and build gradual strength without strain.
  • Breathing techniques (pranayama) — to develop breath awareness, calm the nervous system and deepen focus throughout the practice.
  • Relaxation — a guided relaxation period at the end of each class to allow the body to absorb the practice and settle the mind.

The pace is measured and unhurried. Lee teaches with attention to individual adjustment — each student is seen and guided, not simply taken through a fixed sequence.

How it differs from other styles

Hatha yoga holds postures for longer and moves at a slower, more deliberate pace than flow-based styles like Vinyasa or Ashtanga. The emphasis is on alignment, breath and integration rather than continuous movement or heat-building. It is one of the most accessible styles, and a strong foundation for any yoga practice.

Questions //

About Hatha yoga.

What does Hatha yoga mean?

Ha means sun and tha means moon in Sanskrit. Hatha yoga is the union of these two opposing forces — a balanced practice that works with the physical body, breath and awareness as an integrated whole.

Is it suitable for beginners?

Yes. Hatha yoga is one of the most accessible styles. Lee's approach uses clear instruction and individual guidance throughout class. No prior experience is needed.

How does it differ from Vinyasa or Ashtanga?

Hatha yoga holds postures for longer periods and moves at a slower, more considered pace. The emphasis is on alignment, breath and relaxation rather than the continuous flowing movement that characterises Vinyasa or the set sequence of Ashtanga.

What does a typical class include?

Each 90-minute session includes warm-up stretches, standing and seated postures, breathing practices, and a final relaxation period. The format allows enough time for each element to be experienced fully without rushing.
