Why is bedding and floor levelling so important before tiling?
Tiles can only ever be as good as the surface beneath them. If a slab is uneven, has high spots or was poured incorrectly, tiles laid over it can lip, crack or sound hollow over time. Bedding and levelling create a true, well-shaped foundation so the finished floor sits flat, wears evenly and lasts. It is the quiet, unseen step that protects the money you invest in the tiles themselves.
How do I know if my floor needs levelling?
Often it is not obvious until the slab is properly assessed. That is why we offer a free bedding and levelling consultation — we grade the quality of your concrete foundation and check it for level, fall and any areas that need re-working. If your floor is already sound, we will tell you. If it needs preparation, you will know exactly what is involved before any tiling is quoted.
What is screeding and why does fall matter?
Screeding is the process of applying and levelling layers of sand and cement to shape a floor correctly. In a wet area, screeding the right amount of fall into a shower recess, bathroom, laundry or balcony is very important so water runs to the waste rather than pooling. Correct fall eliminates the risk of water sitting on the surface or finding its way into adjacent rooms.
Do you cover Brisbane, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast for levelling work?
Yes. We provide bedding and floor levelling across Brisbane, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast, both as preparation for our own tiling projects and as a standalone service. Let us know your suburb and the area involved when you get in touch and we will arrange a time to assess the slab.
How does pricing for floor levelling work?
Levelling is quoted based on the size of the area and how much correction the slab needs — a floor that is close to true takes far less work than one that needs significant re-shaping. The free consultation lets us see the slab first so the quote reflects the real scope. You will always have a clear price before the work starts.
How long does bedding and levelling take?
It depends on the size of the area and the number of screed layers required. Levelling is applied in stages — bedding, a first layer, a second layer and a final levelling pass — and each layer needs time before the next. We will give you a realistic timeframe as part of the quote so the levelling and the tiling that follows are scheduled smoothly.
