Internal Door FAQs

Can you install a door in an existing frame?
Yes. If the existing frame is in good condition and square, we can install a new door slab into it. If the frame is damaged, out of square, or you want to change the door size, we'll replace the frame as well. Dave will assess during the quote visit.
What timber species do you recommend for internal doors?
For painted internal doors, finger-jointed pine or engineered hardwood is the most cost-effective option. For stained or natural-finish doors, hardwoods like Tasmanian oak or blackbutt give a better result. Dave will recommend based on your finish preference and budget.
What is the difference between a pre-hung door and a slab door?
A slab door is just the door leaf — no frame or hardware. A pre-hung door comes already fitted into a frame with hinges pre-mortised. Pre-hung is faster to install when you're replacing frame and door together. For existing frames in good condition, a slab door is the better option. Dave will advise based on your situation.
Can you help me choose a door style that suits my home?
Yes — Dave will walk you through the options that fit your home's style during the quote visit. Older Queensland homes typically suit traditional panel doors; contemporary homes suit flush or shaker profiles. The goal is doors that look like they belong, not like afterthoughts.
Do you paint or finish internal doors after installation?
Yes. Finishing is included. Doors are primed, undercoated, and painted (or stained) after installation so the finish is clean around the frame reveal. Dave uses quality materials appropriate for the timber and your chosen finish.
Can you replace just the door hardware without replacing the door?
Yes. If your door is structurally sound but the handles, latches, or hinges are worn or you want to upgrade, Dave can replace hardware only. This is a quick job that makes a noticeable difference to how a door operates and feels.
What is a door reveal and do you install them?
A reveal (also called a door lining or jamb lining) is the flat timber board that covers the gap between the door frame and the wall lining. If you're upgrading frames or renovating, Dave installs reveals as part of the door package so everything is finished neatly.
How many internal doors can you install in a day?
Typically 3–5 internal doors per day depending on complexity. Larger renovation projects — 10+ doors — are scheduled over multiple days with preparation done in stages. Dave will give you a realistic schedule when he scopes the full project.
