Who is Replace My Door?
Replace My Door is a sole-operator timber door business run by Dave — an owner-operator carpenter with 15+ years of experience in timber door supply, installation and finishing. Dave handles every job personally, from the quote through to the final coat of finish. QBCC Licence No. 1170263. Based in Caboolture, servicing Greater Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast.
What services do you offer?
We supply, install and finish timber doors for domestic and commercial clients. Services include domestic doors, commercial doors, entry doors (single, double, French), internal doors, door repairs and restoration, and sliding doors (cavity sliders and barn-style).
What areas do you service?
We service Caboolture, Moreton Bay, North Brisbane, greater Brisbane, and the Sunshine Coast. If you're unsure whether we cover your area, call Dave directly on 0407 200 069.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Dave holds QBCC Licence No. 1170263 and is fully insured for both domestic and commercial work. All work is completed to Queensland Building Code standards.
Do you supply doors, or just install?
Both. We can supply doors through our trade suppliers — which usually gives you better pricing and ensures the right door is selected for the application. If you've already sourced a door you'd like installed, we can work with that too.

Installation & Process

How long does a door installation take?
A single interior door replacement typically takes half a day. External or entry doors usually take a full day. Double doors, cavity sliders, or projects involving frame modifications take longer. Dave will give you a realistic timeframe when he quotes.
Do you paint or stain doors after installation?
Yes — finishing is included as part of the job. Doors are primed, undercoated, and painted (or stained and clear-coated) after installation, so the finish is clean around all reveals. The finish is applied after fitting, not before.
Will you help me choose the right door for my home?
Yes. Dave will walk you through options that suit your home's architecture and your budget during the quote visit. He won't push a particular style — he'll recommend what will actually work and look right in your home.
Do I need a licensed contractor to install doors in Queensland?
For most installations involving frame modifications, structural elements, or external doors, a QBCC licence is required. Dave holds QBCC Licence No. 1170263, so all work is covered.
Do you offer a warranty on your work?
Yes. Dave's workmanship is covered under the statutory warranty provisions in Queensland's QBCC framework. All work is fully insured and licensed, so you have the full protections of the Queensland licensing regime.

Timber & Door Types

What is the difference between solid timber and hollow-core doors?
Solid timber doors have a full timber core — significantly better acoustic insulation, more durable, and better suited to Queensland's humidity. Hollow-core doors have a cardboard or lightweight core between veneers — lighter and cheaper, but less durable and prone to damage. For external doors, solid timber is almost always the right choice.
What is an engineered timber door?
Engineered timber doors use a stable composite core with a solid or hardwood veneer surface. They're more dimensionally stable than solid timber — less prone to seasonal movement — while retaining the appearance and workability of solid timber. Good option for humid environments or for painted doors where grain isn't visible.
What timber species do you work with?
We work with a range of species depending on the application and finish preference — finger-jointed pine for painted interior doors, Tasmanian oak or blackbutt for stained interior work, and appropriate hardwoods for exterior applications. Dave will recommend based on your finish preference and budget.
Can you custom-make a door to fit a non-standard opening?
Yes. Non-standard openings — common in older Queensland homes — are handled as part of the service. Dave can source or have doors made to custom dimensions so you're not forced into a standard size that doesn't fit properly.

Repairs & Restoration

My door sticks in summer but is fine in winter — is this fixable?
Yes — this is seasonal timber movement, very common in Queensland. The door swells when humidity rises. The fix depends on the severity: light cases can be addressed by adjusting hinges; more significant cases may need the door planed or the frame adjusted. Dave will give you an honest assessment of the best approach.
Is it worth repairing my existing door, or should I replace it?
It depends on the door's condition and what's wrong. A structurally sound timber door that sticks, has worn hardware, or needs refinishing is usually well worth repairing — it's cheaper than replacement and often preserves a door that's difficult to match. Dave will give you an honest assessment when he inspects.
Can you restore old timber doors in a heritage or character home?
Yes. Older solid timber doors in Queenslanders, Federation homes, and other character properties are often worth restoring rather than replacing. Dave has experience working with older joinery and understands how to repair and refinish heritage-era timber doors sympathetically.
