Softscape questions
What does a softscape landscaping project include?
Softscape covers all the living elements of a garden — turf, plants, shrubs, garden beds, mulch and soil preparation. A typical softscape project with us starts by improving the soil so plants have the best chance to establish, then laying turf or planting out beds chosen to suit your space and how much sun it gets. Whether you want a full garden makeover or just a fresh lawn and some new planting, we scope the work around your vision and budget.
How do you choose plants that suit Brisbane's climate?
Brisbane's warm, humid summers and mild winters reward plants that can handle heat and the occasional dry spell. We select species suited to your specific position — how much sun and shade the area gets, the soil, and how much maintenance you want to do — so the garden looks good and keeps thriving once we leave. We're also happy to give job-specific advice if you have a tricky spot, a struggling lawn or a drainage issue to work around.
What's the difference between turfing and artificial grass?
Turfing lays real, living lawn — we prepare the ground with quality under-turf soil and roll out fresh turf for an instant green lawn. Artificial grass is a synthetic surface that needs no mowing or watering, which makes it a good option for heavily shaded areas or spots where natural lawn struggles to grow. We install both, and during your quote we'll talk through which one suits your yard, your budget and how you want to use the space.
How does mulching help my garden?
Mulch does more than tidy up the look of a garden bed. A good layer of mulch helps the soil hold moisture, keeps roots cooler through Brisbane summers, and suppresses weed growth so your beds need less ongoing work. It also breaks down over time to feed the soil. We can mulch as part of a larger softscape project or as a standalone job to refresh tired beds.
Can you redesign an existing garden, or only build new ones?
We do plenty of both. A large share of our work is transforming tired, overgrown or template-style gardens into spaces the owners actually want to spend time in. We can work with what's already there — keeping established trees and good structure — while reshaping beds, replacing lawn and replanting. If you'd prefer a clean slate, we can clear the space and start fresh.
How long before a newly planted garden fills out?
It depends on what's planted. Fresh turf knits in within a few weeks with the right watering, while garden beds fill out over a season or two as shrubs and plants establish. We choose plant sizes and spacing so the garden looks good straight away and keeps improving — and we'll give you clear advice on watering and care for those first important months.
How do you price a softscape project?
Every garden is different, so we quote each softscape project individually rather than working from a fixed price list. We visit your property, talk through what you want to achieve, then provide a detailed written quote covering materials and labour. You'll know the full cost before any work begins.
Hardscaping questions
What hardscaping services do you offer?
Hardscaping covers the built, structural elements of a garden. We build retaining walls, garden beds and edging, paved patios and pathways, and we install artificial grass. We also handle earthworks and fence construction. These elements give a garden its shape and usable space — and done properly, they're what makes a landscape last.
Do I need a retaining wall, or just garden edging?
It comes down to whether you're holding back soil or simply separating areas. A retaining wall is needed where there's a change in level — a slope, a terrace, or a garden that needs stepping so it's usable. Garden edging is a lighter treatment that defines beds and keeps lawn and mulch apart. When we quote we'll assess your site and recommend what the space actually needs, rather than over-building.
What materials do you use for retaining walls?
We build retaining walls in timber, sleepers and stone, choosing the material to suit the height of the wall, the look you want and the conditions of the site. On past projects we've stepped sloped gardens with a series of retainers and craned heavy base material over existing walls. During your quote we'll walk the site and recommend the right approach for a wall that holds up for the long term.
Can you build on a sloped or difficult site?
Yes — sloped and awkward sites are a big part of what we do. We've handled steep backyard orchards, post-renovation yards full of unsuitable soil, and sites where old concrete turned up mid-job. We use earthworks, retaining and proper site preparation to turn difficult ground into level, usable garden space. A site visit lets us scope the work accurately before we quote.
Is artificial grass a good option for shaded areas?
It can be an excellent option. Natural lawn struggles in heavily shaded spots and high-traffic areas, and that's exactly where artificial grass earns its place — a consistently green, low-maintenance surface that doesn't need mowing or watering. It's popular for entertaining areas, courtyards and pathways. We'll talk through whether it suits your space when we quote.
How long does a retaining wall or paved area take?
Timeframes vary with the size and complexity of the job. A straightforward edging or small paved area can be done in a day or two, while larger retaining walls, earthworks and full hardscape transformations run over several days to a few weeks. When we provide your quote we'll give you a realistic timeframe for your specific project so you can plan around it.
How is a hardscaping project quoted?
We quote each hardscaping job individually. Because retaining, paving and earthworks depend so much on site conditions, we always visit the property first, assess access and ground conditions, then provide a detailed written quote covering materials and labour. There are no surprises — you'll know the cost before we start.
Garden Maintenance questions
Do you offer regular or one-off garden maintenance?
Both. Some clients book us for a one-off tidy-up to bring an overgrown garden back under control, and others have us back on a regular schedule that keeps everything looking sharp year-round. We've maintained gardens, lawns and hedges for clients over multiple years. Tell us what you need and we'll put together a plan that fits your garden and how hands-on you want to be.
What's included in a garden maintenance visit?
A maintenance visit can include lawn mowing, edging, hedge and shrub trimming, weed control, and general garden tidying — and we tailor each visit to what your garden needs at that time of year. For clients on a regular schedule, we keep an eye on the overall health of the garden and flag anything that needs attention before it becomes a bigger job.
How often should my lawn be mowed?
Through Brisbane's warmer, wetter months, lawns grow quickly and usually benefit from mowing every one to two weeks. Growth slows in the cooler months, so a longer cycle is fine then. We set a mowing schedule that suits your particular lawn and the season, rather than a one-size-fits-all interval, so the grass stays even and healthy.
Do you handle commercial garden maintenance?
Yes — we offer maintenance for both residential and commercial properties. Whether it's a home garden or a commercial site that needs to stay presentable for customers and staff, we can set up a maintenance program that keeps the grounds consistently well kept. Send through an enquiry with a few details and we'll tailor a plan.
Can you help a struggling lawn recover?
Often, yes. A struggling lawn usually has an underlying cause — poor soil, drainage, shade, compaction or pests — and we can assess what's going wrong and recommend a way forward. That might mean fertilising and pest control, improving the soil, or in some cases re-turfing. We're happy to provide job-specific advice on getting a lawn back to health.
Do you handle weed and pest control?
We do. Targeted weed control keeps beds, paths and lawns clear without letting weeds re-establish, and our fertilising and pest control programs keep lawns and gardens fed and protected. These can be part of a regular maintenance schedule or arranged as needed.
How does maintenance pricing work?
Maintenance is quoted to suit your garden and the schedule you want. After we've seen the property and understand its size and what's involved, we'll give you clear pricing — whether that's a per-visit rate for regular maintenance or a quote for a one-off tidy-up. There's no lock-in surprise; you'll know what each visit involves.
