What do I do immediately after a death?

Call Nelson Bros on (03) 8398 4333. We are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our compassionate team will take care of transferring your loved one into our care and will arrange a time to meet with you to plan the funeral service.

Do I need to contact the death certificate registry?

We handle all the paperwork for you, including the medical certificate of cause of death, notifying relevant authorities, and applying for the death certificate on your behalf. You do not need to navigate this alone.

Can Nelson Bros collect from a hospital or nursing home?

Yes. We provide transfer from hospitals, nursing homes, hospices, and private residences across Melbourne and surrounds, 24 hours a day.

What if the death was unexpected or requires a coroner?

In cases of sudden or unexplained death, the coroner may need to be involved. Our team will liaise with the coroner's office on your behalf and guide you through the process at every step.

How soon do we need to make arrangements?

There is no need to rush decisions during this difficult time. Once your loved one is in our care, we will work at your pace to plan a service that is right for your family.

What information will Nelson Bros need from us?

We will need your loved one's full name, date of birth, and some personal history for the death certificate and obituary. We will guide you through everything else during our arrangement conference.
