Common questions
Deck Staining & Repair FAQ
How often should a timber deck be restained?
In Queensland's climate, timber decks typically need restaining every 2–3 years. Decks in full sun or heavy rain may need attention sooner. Signs it's time: timber looks grey, water no longer beads on the surface, or the stain is flaking.
What preparation work is included?
Moe high-pressure washes the deck to remove dirt, algae and old loose stain, sands back rough or splintered boards, replaces any rotten or damaged boards, and applies timber prep product before staining.
Can you repair damaged or rotten deck boards?
Yes. Moe replaces individual boards rather than the whole deck where possible, which keeps costs down. He'll assess the full structure and quote on what needs replacing before work begins.
What type of stain do you use?
Quality exterior timber stains rated for the Queensland climate — penetrating oils for a natural timber look, or solid-colour decking paints for more coverage. Moe will recommend the best product for your timber and usage.
Do you work on pergolas as well?
Yes. Moe stains and paints pergola frames, beams and posts either as part of a deck job or as a standalone project. He also does minor structural repairs to pergola timbers.
How long after staining can we use the deck?
Most penetrating stains are dry to foot traffic within 24–48 hours. Full cure takes 5–7 days. Moe will advise exact timing based on the product used and the weather forecast.
Do you pressure-wash the deck first?
Yes, always. High-pressure washing removes built-up grime, mould and old loose stain so the new coat bonds properly. Skipping this step is why cheaper jobs peel within a year.
