Can MendMan replace a light fitting?
Yes. Like-for-like light fitting replacement — swapping one fitting for another of the same type — is a minor task MendMan can perform safely. We can replace pendant lights, batten holders, and similar fittings. We do not install new wiring or additional circuits, which requires a licensed electrician.
Can MendMan replace smoke alarm batteries?
Yes. Replacing batteries in existing smoke alarms is a straightforward task we can handle during a maintenance visit. If smoke alarms need replacing or upgrading to meet Queensland's interconnected requirements, a licensed electrician is required — and we can coordinate one.
Do Queensland properties need interconnected smoke alarms?
Yes. Queensland has mandatory interconnected photoelectric smoke alarm requirements for all dwellings. Existing properties being sold or leased must comply by specific mandated dates. For smoke alarm upgrades or new installations, MendMan will refer you to or coordinate a licensed electrician.
When do you refer electrical work to a licensed electrician?
Any electrical work beyond like-for-like replacements requires a licensed electrician — including new power points, new light circuits, switchboard work, and smoke alarm installation. MendMan will always be upfront about scope and refer you to a qualified contractor for everything outside our remit.
