Frequently asked questions.

Everything you might want to know before you get in touch — about our services, our approach and how we work.

General
Which Brisbane suburbs do you service?
We work right across greater Brisbane and the surrounding suburbs. That includes inner-city areas such as Paddington, New Farm, Highgate Hill, West End and Woolloongabba, along with leafier suburbs like Bardon, Ashgrove, Ferny Hills and beyond. We travel to you for every quote and every visit. If you are not certain whether we cover your area, just get in touch with your suburb and we will confirm straight away.
What are your opening hours?
Our team works Monday to Friday, from 7:30am to 5:00pm. Those are the hours we are out caring for and creating gardens across Brisbane. You are welcome to send an enquiry through our website at any time, day or night, and we will get back to you during business hours. If you would like to speak to someone directly, a phone call during the working week is the quickest way to reach us.
Are you qualified horticulturists?
Yes. Greater Brisbane Gardens is a team of trained Brisbane horticulturists and qualified landscape designers. We take genuine pride in our craft and keep learning constantly — researching design trends, attending garden and landscape expos, visiting plant shows and reading widely to stay up to date with current plants, treatments and techniques. That depth of knowledge is what lets us care for gardens of every style, from ornamental to productive to native, and give advice you can rely on.
How do I get a quote?
Getting a quote is easy. Give us a call, or send an enquiry through our contact or book-now page with a few details about your garden and what you are after. We will arrange a time to come out to you on site — because seeing the space in person is the only way to quote it accurately — and then provide a clear, no-obligation quote. There is no pressure and no cost to find out where we can take your garden.
How do you charge for your gardening services?
We quote each job after understanding your garden rather than applying a flat rate, because every space and every brief is different. For maintenance we look at the size, plant palette and visit frequency; for design we look at the scope and level of detail; for consultancy we look at the depth of advice you need. Whatever the service, you will receive a clear quote before any work begins, so you can make a confident, fully-informed decision.
Do you take on both residential and commercial gardens?
Yes. We provide garden maintenance, landscape design and horticultural consultancy for both private residential gardens and commercial properties across Brisbane. Whether it is a family backyard, an inner-city courtyard, or the grounds of a commercial site, the same organic, plant-health-led approach applies. If you have a commercial space that needs regular care or a fresh design, get in touch and we will talk through what will work best for the property.
Do you use organic methods?
We do, wholeheartedly. We believe in an organic approach, just as nature intended — practising biological control by planting beneficial species and encouraging biodiversity throughout the gardens we care for. What our buggy, reptilian and mammalian friends do not take care of, our organic sprays and techniques will. The result is gardens that are alive and in healthy balance, and outdoor spaces that are safer for the children, pets and wildlife that share them.
How long has Greater Brisbane Gardens been operating?
We have been tending to plants and outdoor spaces as Greater Brisbane Gardens since 2010 — though our gardening roots run much deeper than that. Over more than a decade we have created, transformed and maintained beautiful, long-lasting gardens across Brisbane and its surrounding suburbs. That experience, combined with a team that genuinely loves what they do, is what allows us to deliver a friendly, high-quality, five-star service on every job.
Garden Maintenance
Do you offer regular garden maintenance or just one-off visits?
We do both. Many Brisbane homeowners book us on a regular schedule — fortnightly or monthly — so their garden stays looking its best year-round without them having to think about it. Others bring us in for a one-off tidy-up, a seasonal reset, or to rescue a garden that has gotten away from them. Whatever suits your garden and lifestyle, we will talk it through on site and recommend a rhythm that keeps your green space healthy and presentable without over-servicing it.
How do you charge for garden maintenance?
Every garden is different, so we price maintenance after seeing your space rather than quoting a flat rate over the phone. We look at the size of the garden, the plant palette, how established it is and how often you would like us to visit, then give you a clear quote before any work starts. For ongoing maintenance we can set a regular visit cost so you always know what to expect. We are happy to come out and provide a no-obligation quote so you can make an informed decision.
Which Brisbane suburbs do you cover for garden maintenance?
We maintain gardens right across greater Brisbane, from inner-city suburbs like Paddington, New Farm and Highgate Hill out to Ashgrove, Bardon, Ferny Hills and beyond. If you are in the Brisbane area, there is a very good chance we can help — and if you are not sure, just get in touch with your suburb and we will let you know straight away. We travel to you for every quote and every visit.
What happens to the green waste after a visit?
We use top-of-the-line equipment to leave a professional finish, and we remove all green waste at the end of every visit — so you are left with a tidy garden and nothing to deal with afterwards. The one exception is if you have the ability to compost on site and would like to keep the material; we are happy to work that way, and can even help you set up composting so your garden feeds itself. Just let us know your preference and we will plan around it.
Can you create a maintenance plan for my garden?
Yes. As well as the regular hands-on work, we can produce a written maintenance plan for your garden. It assesses the space, divides it into zones, gives cultivation notes for the plants you have, and sets out a timeline for tasks across the seasons. It is a genuinely useful document whether our team carries out the work or you do some of it yourself — it takes the guesswork out of keeping a garden healthy and makes sure nothing important gets missed.
Do you use chemical sprays in my garden?
Our approach is organic wherever possible. All our garden maintenance is carried out with organic techniques and remedies, which helps increase biodiversity and keeps the garden a safer space for children, pets and wildlife. We practise biological control — encouraging beneficial plants and insects to keep problems in check — and reach for organic sprays and treatments when something does need attention. If you have particular concerns about what goes into your garden, tell us and we will tailor our methods to suit.
How often should my garden be maintained?
It depends on the style and size of your garden, the plants in it, and how you like it to look. A established, low-maintenance garden might only need attention every month or so, while a lush or formal garden benefits from a more frequent visit to stay sharp. When we come out to quote, we will give you an honest recommendation based on what we see — enough to keep the garden thriving and presentable, without paying for visits you do not really need.
Do I need to be home when the team visits?
Not at all. Once we have agreed on the scope of work and have access to the garden, most of our regular maintenance clients are happy to leave us to it and come home to a freshly cared-for garden. If it is our first visit or there are specific things you would like us to focus on, it can help to be there at the start so we can walk the garden together — but day to day, we are glad to work around your schedule.
Landscape Design
What does the landscape design process involve?
It usually starts with a measure-up and a conversation on site, where we get to understand your space, how you want to use it and the look you are drawn to. From there we move into concept design — sketching the layout, the flow from indoors to out, and how the garden will feel. Once the concept is right we develop detailed plans and a planting palette so everything is considered before a single plant goes in. We love every part of the process, from first measure to final implementation.
How do you price a landscape design?
Design pricing depends on the size and complexity of your garden and how detailed you would like the plans to be — a small courtyard concept is a very different scope to detailed plans for a sprawling block. Rather than guess, we prefer to see the space, understand what you are after, and give you a clear quote up front. We will also explain what each stage includes so you know exactly what you are getting. Get in touch and we will arrange a time to come out and talk it through.
Can you design a small courtyard or just large gardens?
We design gardens of every size. Our experienced landscape designers work on everything from compact inner-city courtyards through to standard residential blocks and sprawling acreage. A small space often benefits the most from thoughtful design — clever planting, the right materials and good flow can make a courtyard feel like a genuine extension of the home. So whether you have a balcony-sized garden or a large property, we would love to help you shape it.
Do you also build the gardens you design?
Yes — we love every part of the process from measure-up, to concept, to implementation. Having the same team design and build your garden means the vision carries through without anything being lost in translation. It also means the planting plan, the materials and the practical realities of construction are all considered together from the start. If you would prefer to take our design to your own contractor, that is fine too; our detailed plans are made to be built from.
How long does a landscape design take?
Timeframes vary with the size of the project and how many rounds of refinement you would like. A straightforward courtyard concept can come together quite quickly, while detailed plans for a larger garden naturally take longer to get right. We would rather give you a realistic timeline based on your specific project than quote a generic number — so when we meet to discuss your garden, we will map out the stages and give you a clear idea of what to expect.
Will a landscape design add value to my property?
It can. With beauty and functionality comes value — investing in good landscape design prior to construction tends to improve both how much you enjoy your home and what it is worth. A well-designed garden becomes an extension of the house, flowing from indoor to outdoor and complementing its surroundings. We have been lucky enough to help many Brisbane homeowners create, transform and improve their gardens, and a considered design is what makes the result feel cohesive rather than piecemeal.
Do you cover my Brisbane suburb for landscape design?
We design gardens across greater Brisbane and the surrounding suburbs, including Paddington, Bardon, New Farm, Ashgrove, Highgate Hill and well beyond. We come to you for the initial measure-up and consultation so we can experience the space first-hand. If you would like to check we cover your area, just send through your suburb when you get in touch and we will confirm right away.
What should I prepare before a design consultation?
Not much is needed — just an idea of how you would like to use the garden and any looks or features you are drawn to. Photos of gardens you love, a rough wish-list, and any practical must-haves (a vegie patch, a play area, low maintenance, privacy) all help us understand you. If you have a site survey or property plans handy that is a bonus, but it is not essential — part of our process is measuring up the space ourselves so the design is grounded in reality.
Horticultural Consultancy
What is horticultural consultancy and when would I need it?
Horticultural consultancy is expert advice on the health and management of your garden and its plants. You might call on it when plants are struggling and you are not sure why, when you are planning what to plant and want to get it right the first time, or when you want a clear maintenance strategy for an established garden. As trained Brisbane horticulturists we can advise on plant health, location and aspect, pest and disease management, soil, plant selection and more — across ornamental, productive and native gardens alike.
How do you charge for a horticultural consultation?
We price consultancy based on the size of your garden and the depth of advice you are after — a focused visit to diagnose one problem is different to a full garden assessment with a written report. We will talk through what you need and give you a clear quote before we begin, so there are no surprises. Get in touch with a little detail about your garden and what is prompting the call, and we will recommend the right level of consultation for you.
Can you diagnose what is wrong with my plants?
Yes — diagnosing plant health problems is core to what we do. We look at the whole picture: the plant itself, its location and aspect, the soil it is growing in, watering, and any signs of pests or disease. Often what looks like one problem has its roots in something else entirely, which is why a trained eye matters. Once we understand what is going on, we will explain it plainly and recommend a practical, organic-first course of action to get your plants back to health.
Do you provide a written report after a consultation?
We can. As part of our consultancy work we are able to produce garden reports that capture our assessment, our recommendations, and a maintenance schedule going forward. A written report is especially useful if you want a clear reference to work from, if several people share responsibility for the garden, or if you would like a considered plan rather than verbal advice. Let us know when you book whether a report would be helpful and we will include it in the scope.
Can you help me choose the right plants for my garden?
Absolutely. Plant selection is one of the most valuable parts of consultancy — the right plant in the right place thrives with far less effort, while the wrong choice is a constant struggle. We consider your garden's light, aspect, soil and climate, your maintenance appetite and the look you want, then recommend plants suited to it. We attend plant and design expos and garden shows to stay current with stock and trends, and can point you toward good suppliers as well.
Do you cover native and edible gardens too?
Yes. Our horticultural advice covers all styles of gardens — from ornamental, to productive, to native, and everything in between. Native gardens have their own rewards and quirks, and a productive vegie or fruit garden brings questions of soil, season and harvest. Whatever direction your garden leans, our trained horticulturists can advise on plant health, suitable species, and how to keep it productive and healthy in the Brisbane climate.
Do you do soil testing?
We do. Soil is the foundation of a healthy garden, and soil testing and amelioration is part of our horticultural work. Understanding what your soil is — and is not — giving your plants lets us recommend the right amendments rather than guessing. It is often the missing piece when plants underperform despite everything else looking fine. If you suspect your soil is holding your garden back, a consultation that includes testing is a sound place to start.
Do you service my area of Brisbane?
We provide horticultural consultancy across greater Brisbane and the surrounding suburbs. From inner suburbs such as Paddington and New Farm to leafier areas like Bardon and Ashgrove, we travel to you so we can assess the garden in person — which is essential for accurate advice. If you would like to confirm we reach your suburb, just include it when you contact us and we will let you know.
