General

What areas does Designer Image service?
We service the greater Brisbane area and across South East Queensland, with installation teams spanning from the Sunshine Coast to the Gold Coast. Our central office is in Alderley. If you’d like to check we cover your specific suburb, just get in touch.
What are your office hours?
Our office is open Monday to Friday, 7:00am to 4:00pm. You can call us on (07) 3356 6000 during those hours, or send an enquiry through the website any time and we’ll respond on the next business day.
Is Designer Image licensed and insured?
Yes. Designer Image is QBCC licensed (Licence 1065427) and fully insured. We are also members of Master Builders Queensland and Landscape Queensland, and our work is carried out by qualified landscape and trade professionals.
How do I get a quote?
Call us on (07) 3356 6000 or send an enquiry through our contact page with a few details about your project. We’ll arrange a site consultation so we can see the conditions first-hand, then provide a detailed, obligation-free quote that sets out the scope clearly.
Do you take on small projects or only large ones?
We work across projects of all sizes and scales — from a single deck or a section of retaining wall through to full backyard transformations. Designer Image has completed thousands of residential projects since 2002, and our teams tailor their approach to suit the job in front of them.
How long has Designer Image been operating?
Designer Image has had a strong presence in the South East Queensland landscaping scene since 2002 — over 20 years. In that time we’ve completed thousands of residential projects in both new-build areas and established suburbs.
Who will be carrying out the work?
Your project is delivered by Designer Image’s own qualified landscape and trade professionals, coordinated by an experienced leadership team with dedicated divisions for landscaping and retaining. For structural work we also engage RPEQ certified engineers and licensed certifiers as required.
Do you offer advice on which solution suits my property?
Yes. A big part of what we do is professional advice — whether that’s the right retaining system for your soil and slope, plant selection for your aspect, or how to stage a larger project. We’d rather walk your site and recommend the solution that genuinely suits it than apply a generic approach.

Landscaping

What landscaping services does Designer Image offer?
We deliver complete structural and soft landscaping — decking, fencing, concreting for driveways and pathways, paving and tiling, pool surrounds and renovations, retaining, garden installation, turfing and irrigation. Because we handle both the hardscaping and the softscaping in-house, we can take a project from bare ground through to a finished, planted outdoor space without juggling multiple contractors. If you’re not sure which elements your project needs, we can walk the site with you and map it out.
Do you provide free quotes for landscaping work?
Yes. We provide an obligation-free quote for every landscaping enquiry. The best starting point is a site consultation so we can see the levels, access, soil and existing features first-hand. From there we put together a detailed quote that sets out the scope and staging clearly. Pricing depends on the size of the area, the materials selected and site conditions such as slope and access, so an on-site look-through gives you the most accurate figure.
Which areas do you cover for landscaping projects?
We service the greater Brisbane area and right across South East Queensland, with installation teams spanning from the Sunshine Coast down to the Gold Coast. Our central office is in Alderley, which keeps us well placed for projects throughout the northern and inner suburbs. If you’d like to confirm we cover your specific suburb, get in touch and we’ll let you know straight away.
How long does a typical landscaping project take?
Timeframes vary widely with scope. A focused job such as a deck or a section of new garden can be completed in a matter of days, while a full backyard transformation involving earthworks, concreting, retaining and planting runs longer and is usually staged. Once we’ve assessed your site we give you a realistic schedule and sequence so you know what to expect at each stage and which trades are on site when.
Are you licensed and insured for landscaping construction?
Yes. Designer Image is QBCC licensed (Licence 1065427) and fully insured, and we are members of Master Builders Queensland and Landscape Queensland. Our work is carried out by qualified landscape and trade professionals. For structural elements such as retaining walls we work alongside RPEQ certified engineers and licensed certifiers to ensure everything complies with local authority requirements.
Can you handle both the design and the construction?
Yes. We take a practical approach to landscape design and implementation, focusing on bringing your vision to fruition. Our team can advise on layout, materials, plant selection and how the hardscaping and softscaping work together, then construct the whole project. Having the same company plan and build the work means the design stays grounded in what can actually be delivered on your site and within your budget.
What is the difference between hard and soft landscaping?
Hardscaping covers the built structural elements — decking, fencing, concreting, paving, retaining walls and pool surrounds. Softscaping covers the living elements — garden beds, plant selection and sourcing, turf and irrigation. Most complete outdoor spaces need both, and the two need to be planned together so drainage, levels and access all work. We deliver both, which is why projects come together as one cohesive result.
Do you work on both new builds and established properties?
Yes. Designer Image has completed thousands of residential projects in both new-build areas and established suburbs since 2002. Established properties often bring challenges such as tight access, mature trees or existing structures, while new builds are more of a blank canvas. Our teams are experienced across both, and we tailor the construction approach and sequencing to suit the conditions on your particular site.

Retaining Walls

What types of retaining walls do you build?
We build concrete sleeper walls, besser block walls, rock and boulder walls, dry stack block walls and timber sleeper retaining walls. Each system has its own suitability depending on wall height, soil conditions, drainage, the look you’re after and budget. We have dedicated teams for each type, and we’ll give you professional advice on which system best suits your site rather than pushing a one-size-fits-all solution.
Do I need engineering or council approval for a retaining wall?
It depends on the height of the wall and your local council’s requirements. Taller and structural walls generally need engineering and certification. Our retaining division holds a QBCC Builders licence required to complete structural retaining walls outside general landscaping specifications, and we work closely with RPEQ certified engineers and licensed certifiers to ensure compliance with local authorities. We’ll let you know what your project needs before work begins.
How is a retaining wall quoted?
We quote retaining walls after assessing the site, because cost is driven by the wall height and length, the system chosen, soil and slope conditions, drainage requirements and access for machinery. A retaining wall should be looked at as an investment in the structural integrity of your property, so the quote sets out the scope clearly. We provide an obligation-free quote once we’ve seen the site.
How long does it take to build a retaining wall?
A straightforward residential retaining wall can often be completed within several days, while larger or structural walls that need earthworks, engineering and drainage take longer. Access and weather also play a part. Once our retaining team has assessed your site we’ll give you a clear timeframe and explain the sequence of works so you know what to expect.
Why is drainage important behind a retaining wall?
Drainage is one of the most important factors in a retaining wall lasting the test of time. Without proper drainage, water builds up behind the wall and adds significant pressure that the structure was not designed to hold. Our retaining teams build in appropriate drainage as part of the construction so the finished wall stays structurally sound for the long term — it’s not an optional extra.
Can a retaining wall be combined with fencing or landscaping?
Yes, and it often makes sense to. Many of our retaining projects are completed alongside fencing, garden installation, turf or paving so the finished result is cohesive. Because Designer Image handles both retaining and full landscaping in-house, the levels, drainage and finishes are all planned together rather than being handed between separate contractors.
Which areas do you build retaining walls in?
Our retaining teams work across the greater Brisbane area and South East Queensland, from the Sunshine Coast to the Gold Coast, operating from our central office in Alderley. If you’d like to confirm we cover your suburb for a retaining project, contact us and we’ll let you know.
How tall can a retaining wall be?
Wall height is determined by the site, the chosen system and engineering requirements rather than a fixed limit. Lower walls are often achievable as a landscaping element, while taller structural walls require engineering, certification and the appropriate building licence — which our retaining division holds. When we assess your site we’ll advise the most suitable height and system for what you need to achieve.
