Questions & answers

Residential Painting — your questions answered

Do you paint both the inside and outside of a house?+

Yes. Matty's Painting handles interior repaints — bedrooms, living areas, hallways, ceilings and trim — as well as full exterior work including weatherboards, render, eaves and timber. Many homeowners book both at once so the whole place is refreshed in a single coordinated project, but you're welcome to start with just one area. When Matt looks over the job he'll talk through what each part involves and help you prioritise if you'd prefer to stage the work over time.

How does pricing work for a home repaint?+

Every home is different, so pricing is always based on an on-site look rather than a flat rate. Matt considers the size of the area, the condition of the existing surfaces, how much preparation and repair is needed, and the type of finish you're after. Once he's seen the job you'll receive a clear written quote that sets out the scope and what's included, so there are no surprises later. Quotes are provided free of charge and there's no obligation to go ahead.

How long will my home repaint take?+

Timing depends on the size of the job and the amount of preparation involved. A single room is usually a short job, while a full interior or a whole-house exterior takes longer — especially when surfaces need patching, sanding or extra drying time between coats. When Matt provides your quote he'll give you a realistic timeframe and let you know how the work will be staged, so you can plan around it.

Will you move furniture and protect my floors?+

Yes. Protecting your home is part of the job. Furniture is moved or covered, floors and fixed surfaces are masked, and areas not being painted are kept clean. At the end of each day the work area is tidied so your home stays liveable while the project is underway. If there are items you'd prefer to move yourself or rooms you'd like kept off-limits, just let Matt know and he'll work around it.

What kind of paint do you use?+

Matt uses good quality paints suited to the surface and the conditions — interior, exterior, timber or render each call for different products. He'll talk you through the options for sheen and durability and help you land on a finish that suits the room and how it's used. If you already have a colour or brand in mind that's no problem at all; if you're not sure, he's happy to guide you through choosing something that works.

Do I need to be home while you paint?+

Not necessarily. Many homeowners are out at work while the painting happens and that's perfectly fine — Matt will agree access arrangements with you beforehand. Clear communication is a big part of how Matty's Painting works, so you'll be kept informed of progress whether you're home or not. If you'd prefer to be there for colour decisions or to see key stages, that can easily be arranged.

Can you help with minor repairs before painting?+

Minor preparation work such as filling small holes, patching cracks and sanding back flaking paint is a normal part of getting surfaces ready for a quality finish, and it's included in the scope Matt quotes. If there's larger repair work needed — significant timber damage, for example — he'll point it out when he looks at the job and talk through how best to handle it before painting begins.
