FAQ

Questions, answered straight.

The things Brisbane customers ask us most — about quoting, licensing, timber, timeframes and how C3L works. Still not sure? Just call.

General

What areas of Brisbane does C3L cover?

C3L Carpentry & Joinery is based in Carina on Brisbane's east side and takes on carpentry, decking and joinery projects across the wider Brisbane area, including suburbs such as Camp Hill, Carindale, Coorparoo, Cannon Hill, Morningside and Bulimba. If you're not certain whether we reach your suburb, just get in touch and ask.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. C3L Carpentry & Joinery is fully QBCC licensed and fully insured. We also stay up to date with the latest Queensland building codes and regulations and are knowledgeable in the Building Code of Australia and the Queensland Development Code, so your project is handled to the standards expected in Queensland.

Do you provide free quotes?

Yes. Free, no-obligation quotes are part of how we work. We'll talk through your project, visit the site where needed, and provide a clear written quote. There's no cost or commitment in finding out what your deck, joinery or maintenance job would involve.

How do I get a quote or book a job?

The easiest way is to call us on 0452 353 338 or send a message through the contact page with a few details about your project. We'll get back to you, arrange a site visit if it's needed, and provide a written quote. From there it's your decision whether to go ahead.

What does C3L Carpentry & Joinery do?

C3L is a Brisbane carpentry and joinery business led by Rick. We design and build custom timber decks, carpentry and joinery including kitchens and wardrobes, handmade furniture, and we handle property maintenance and repairs. Indoor or outdoor, domestic or commercial — we cover a wide range of carpentry work.

Do you guarantee your work?

We take real pride in our workmanship — Rick is a perfectionist who isn't satisfied until every joint is tight and every surface is smooth. We use quality materials and proven techniques, work to Queensland building standards, and don't consider a job done until you're happy with it at the final walk-through.

Decking

How much does a new deck cost in Brisbane?

Deck pricing depends on the size, the height off the ground, the timber or composite you choose, and any extras like stairs, screening or built-in seating. Rather than guess, we visit the site, take measurements and put together a clear written quote so you can see exactly what's included. There are no hidden price hikes once the job starts — the figure we quote is the figure we work to.

How do I get a quote for a deck?

Get in touch with a few details about what you're picturing and roughly where the deck will go. We'll arrange a time to visit the site, talk through materials and design options, and then send you a written, no-obligation quote. Free quotes are part of how we work, so there's no cost or commitment in finding out what your project would involve.

What timber do you use for decking?

We work with a range of decking timbers and materials and recommend the right one for your situation — your budget, how the deck will be used, sun exposure and the look you're after all matter. During the site visit we'll talk through the options so you can make an informed choice rather than being pushed toward a single product.

Do I need council approval for a deck?

Some decks need building approval and others don't, depending on the height, size and where they sit on the property. Queensland has clear rules under the Building Code of Australia and the Queensland Development Code. We're across these requirements and will let you know what your project needs as part of the quoting process so there are no surprises.

How long does it take to build a deck?

Build time depends on the size and complexity of the deck, site access, and the weather. A straightforward deck can come together quickly, while a larger or multi-level build with screening and seating takes longer. We'll give you a realistic timeframe with your quote and keep you updated throughout so you always know where the project stands.

Can you build decks on sloping or uneven ground?

Yes. We've built feature decks over uneven ground and around existing structures, including curved and circular designs. Sloping sites simply need the right structural approach, which we'll work out during the site visit. If your yard isn't flat, that doesn't rule out a great deck — it just shapes how we frame and support it.

Are you licensed and insured to build decks?

Yes. C3L Carpentry & Joinery is fully QBCC licensed and fully insured, and we stay up to date with the latest Queensland building codes and regulations. That means your deck is built to standard by a properly covered trade — important both for safety and if you ever come to sell the property.

Carpentry & Joinery

What kinds of carpentry and joinery do you do?

C3L handles a wide range of carpentry and joinery — custom kitchens, wardrobes, cabinetry, built-in storage, shelving and one-off custom builds for the home or office. Rick's background is in shop fitting and cabinet making, so detailed, made-to-measure joinery is core to what we do. If you're not sure whether your project fits, just ask.

Do you build custom kitchens and wardrobes?

Yes. Custom kitchens, wardrobes and cabinetry are a core part of our joinery work. Because each piece is made to measure, it fits your space properly rather than forcing your room to suit an off-the-shelf product. We'll talk through layout, materials and finishes during the quote so the result works the way you live.

How do you price a joinery project?

Joinery is quoted per project because every kitchen, wardrobe or cabinet is different. After we understand what you need and have measured the space, we provide a clear written quote covering materials and labour. We talk about how the pricing works rather than quoting a number blind — that way the figure reflects your actual job.

Can you match existing cabinetry or timber?

In most cases, yes. If you're extending or refurbishing and want new joinery to blend with what's already there, we'll assess the existing timber, profiles and finishes during the site visit and advise on how close a match is achievable. Where an exact match isn't possible, we'll suggest the best practical option.

Do you work on commercial as well as residential jobs?

Yes. We take on carpentry and joinery for both the home and the office — indoor or outdoor, domestic or commercial. Rick's shop-fitting background means commercial fit-out style work is well within scope. Tell us about the space and how it's used and we'll let you know how we can help.

How long does a custom joinery project take?

Timeframes vary with the size of the job, the materials involved and how much is fabricated off site versus installed on site. A single wardrobe is quicker than a full kitchen. We'll give you a realistic schedule with your quote and keep you informed at each stage so the project stays predictable.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. C3L Carpentry & Joinery is fully QBCC licensed and fully insured. We're also knowledgeable in the Building Code of Australia and the Queensland Development Code, so your joinery is built and installed to the standards expected in Queensland.

Handmade Furniture

What kind of furniture can you make?

We design and build bespoke, hand-crafted furniture to suit your space and brief — pieces like tables, benches, shelving, storage and other one-off items. Because each piece is made by hand rather than mass produced, you get something built to your dimensions, your style and the way you'll actually use it.

How does a custom furniture commission work?

It starts with a conversation about what you're picturing — the piece, the space it's for and the look you want. We talk through timber, finish and dimensions, then provide a quote. Once you're happy, Rick builds the piece and we arrange a time to deliver and place it. You're kept in the loop throughout.

How do you price handmade furniture?

Each piece is priced individually because size, timber, complexity and finish all affect the work involved. After we understand your brief we provide a clear written quote. We focus on explaining what drives the price so you can make choices — a different timber or a simpler design will move the figure, and we'll be upfront about that.

Can I choose the timber and finish?

Yes — that's the point of a custom piece. We'll talk through timber options and finishes and recommend what suits the piece, how it will be used and the rest of your space. You make the final call with our guidance, so the finished furniture is genuinely yours rather than a generic product.

How long does a custom piece take?

It depends on the size and detail of the piece and our current workload. A simple item is quicker than a large, detailed build. We'll give you a realistic timeframe when we quote and let you know if anything changes, so you're never left wondering where your commission is up to.

Do you deliver and install the furniture?

Yes. Once your piece is finished we'll arrange a suitable time to deliver it and position it in your space. If the item is built in or needs fixing in place, we handle that too — so the commission is complete and ready to use, not left as a job for you to finish.

Property Maintenance

What property maintenance jobs do you take on?

Our carpenters take on repairs, refurbishments and general property maintenance — timber repairs, fixing and replacing fittings, refurbishing tired joinery, deck and structural repairs, and the kind of jobs that need a skilled hand. If it's carpentry or joinery related, at home or in the office, it's worth asking us about.

Do you do small jobs or only large projects?

Both. While C3L is known for decks and custom joinery, our team handles smaller maintenance and repair work too. A capable carpenter on a small job often saves you money and hassle compared with leaving it. Tell us what needs doing and we'll let you know if it's something we can help with.

How do you charge for maintenance work?

Maintenance and repair work is quoted based on what the job involves once we understand the scope — some jobs suit a fixed quote, others are better handled on a time basis. We'll explain how we plan to charge before any work starts so you're comfortable with the approach and there are no surprises.

How quickly can you come out?

It depends on our current schedule and how urgent the work is. Get in touch with a description of the problem and we'll let you know realistically when we can attend. For anything that affects safety or could get worse if left, tell us when you call so we can prioritise appropriately.

Do you repair decks and timber structures?

Yes. Repairing and refurbishing timber decks, structures and joinery is squarely within our wheelhouse — it's the same craftsmanship we bring to new builds. We'll assess the condition during a site visit and advise whether a repair, partial rebuild or full replacement is the most sensible option for you.

Are you insured for maintenance work?

Yes. C3L Carpentry & Joinery is fully QBCC licensed and fully insured, and that cover applies across our maintenance and repair work as well as new builds. You're dealing with a properly licensed and insured trade whatever the size of the job.
