Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about Principal Edge Financial Services, our approach, and our three core services.
About Principal Edge
Principal Edge Financial Services was founded by Bruce Kluk in 1988. The firm has operated under its current structure since 1997, providing financial planning, investment management and superannuation advice from offices in Double Bay and the Sydney CBD for over 35 years.
Principal Edge has two Sydney offices: Level 3, Bay House, 2 Guilfoyle Avenue, Double Bay NSW 2028 (phone: +61 2 9363 2900) and Level 17, Suite 3, 20 Bond Street, Sydney NSW 2000 (phone: +61 2 9232 6800). Both offices are open Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM.
Yes. Principal Edge is a privately owned financial planning practice. Our advisers have no obligation to recommend specific platforms, managed funds, or investment products because of institutional relationships. Every recommendation is shaped entirely by your individual goals and circumstances.
The first step is a discovery consultation. Call our Double Bay office on +61 2 9363 2900 or complete our contact form to arrange an initial meeting. We begin by listening — understanding your goals, your current position, and what a successful outcome looks like for you.
Principal Edge uses a comprehensive consultative approach to uncover what truly matters to each client. We believe good financial advice starts with understanding your goals, priorities, and vision for the future — not with a product catalogue. Every solution is personalised to your specific circumstances.
Financial Planning
A Principal Edge financial plan covers goal setting and prioritisation, cashflow and budgeting strategy, risk and insurance review, investment strategy, retirement planning, and estate planning considerations including beneficiary nominations and asset ownership structures.
Most clients have at least an annual review meeting. Additional meetings are arranged when significant life events occur — a job change, inheritance, property purchase, major market movement, or regulatory change — to ensure your plan remains aligned with your current circumstances.
Principal Edge incorporates estate planning considerations — including superannuation death benefit nominations, asset ownership structures, and trust arrangements — into the broader financial plan. We work alongside your legal advisers to ensure your plan reflects your wishes for the future.
Investment Management
Institutional grade refers to the rigour applied to portfolio construction — structured asset allocation, formal investment policy, diversified construction, and systematic risk management. It is the same discipline used by large superannuation funds, applied to a private client portfolio.
Yes. We frequently work with clients who have existing portfolios built independently or through a previous adviser. We review the holdings against your goals, identify any misalignments or concentrations, and recommend a transition strategy if adjustments are warranted.
Principal Edge constructs diversified portfolios across listed equities (Australian and international), fixed income, listed property, infrastructure, cash, and alternative investments. The appropriate mix depends entirely on your goals, risk tolerance, and investment timeline.
Superannuation Advice
Yes. Principal Edge specialises in superannuation advice for clients with larger balances, including strategic guidance on the proposed Division 296 tax on earnings above $3 million, contribution cap management, and pension phase planning decisions affected by legislative changes.
Yes. Principal Edge advises SMSF clients on investment strategy, whether the SMSF structure remains appropriate for their balance level and circumstances, and compliance considerations relevant to their fund.
A Transition to Retirement income stream allows clients who have reached their preservation age to draw some superannuation income while still working — potentially enabling a gradual wind-down of working hours without a full income reduction. Whether a TTR strategy is appropriate depends on individual circumstances, and Principal Edge provides personalised guidance.
Superannuation does not automatically form part of your estate. A binding death benefit nomination directs the trustee to pay your benefit to specified beneficiaries (must be renewed every three years unless non-lapsing). A non-binding nomination is a guide only. Principal Edge reviews your nominations as part of your estate planning to ensure your intentions are carried out.
