General questions
Do you cover my suburb?
MJN Carpentry is based in Paddington and works right across Brisbane's inner north and northern suburbs — from Bardon, The Gap and Ferny Grove through to Albany Creek, Strathpine and Petrie. If your suburb isn't on our list, get in touch; we may still be able to help, though areas further out can include a fee for quote.
What are your hours?
We're generally on the tools Monday to Friday, with Saturdays available by appointment. The quickest way to reach us is by phone on 0407 624 919, or send a message through our contact form and we'll reply within one business day.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. MJN Carpentry is QBCC licensed (Licence 1314902) and a member of Master Builders Queensland, and our team is fully insured. That means your project is handled by qualified professionals and built to the right standards.
How does pricing and quoting work?
Every job is quoted individually. We start with a free consultation and an on-site measure, then provide a detailed estimate that itemises materials and labour. You see the full cost before any work begins — our process is built around no vague figures and no surprises.
How do I get started on a project?
The easiest first step is a free initial consultation. Call us, book online or send your details through the contact form, and we'll arrange a time to talk through your project, look at the space and explain how we'd approach it.
Do you offer a guarantee on your work?
We do. MJN Carpentry is dedicated to a high standard of quality on every project, and we stand behind our workmanship. Our goal is carpentry that exceeds your expectations and stands the test of time.
Can you handle small jobs as well as full renovations?
Yes. We take on everything from home maintenance and repairs through to full renovations and extensions. Whatever the size, you get the same quality of craftsmanship and the same straightforward service.
Home Renovations
How does pricing work for a renovation?
Renovations are quoted individually because no two homes are the same. We start with a design conversation and an on-site visit, then provide a detailed construction estimate that covers materials and labour. You get a clear figure before work starts, and we flag anything that could affect it rather than springing surprises later.
Do you manage the whole renovation?
Yes. We manage our projects from preconstruction design through to the finishing touches, coordinating the work so it runs in the right order. That gives you one point of contact and a smoother experience than juggling trades yourself.
Can you do a partial renovation rather than the whole house?
Of course. Plenty of our renovation work is focused — a kitchen, a bathroom, or one area of the home. We're happy to scope the project to your budget and priorities, and tell you honestly what will make the biggest difference.
How long does a renovation take?
It depends entirely on the scope. A single-room remodel is far quicker than a full-home renovation involving multiple trades. We give you a realistic schedule with your estimate and keep you updated as the project moves through each stage.
Will I know the cost before work begins?
Yes. A detailed, upfront estimate is part of how we work — you see materials and labour itemised before construction starts. Our process is designed around no vague figures and no surprises once the job is underway.
What areas do you renovate in?
We work across Brisbane's inner north and northern suburbs from our Paddington base, including Bardon, The Gap, Keperra, Stafford, Albany Creek and surrounds. Contact us to confirm your suburb.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. MJN Carpentry is QBCC licensed, a Master Builders Queensland member and fully insured — important reassurance for any renovation project.
Decks, Carports & Exteriors
How do you quote a deck or carport?
We quote each outdoor build individually. After a free on-site visit to check the space, levels and access, we give you an itemised estimate covering materials and labour. Decks and carports vary a lot with size, height and timber choice, so an upfront measure is the only way to give you an accurate figure.
What timber do you use for decks?
We use hardwood and treated timbers selected to stand up to the Queensland climate, and we'll talk you through the options that suit your budget and how the space will be used. Choosing the right material upfront is what keeps a deck looking good and lasting longer.
Can you repair or restore an existing deck?
Yes. Not every deck needs replacing — sometimes it's a matter of replacing boards, re-fixing the structure or refreshing the finish. We'll assess the condition honestly and tell you whether a repair or a rebuild is the better value.
Do I need approval for a deck or carport?
Some outdoor structures need building approval depending on their size, height and location. We'll let you know what's likely to apply to your project during the quote stage so there are no surprises, and we'll build to the standards required.
How long does a deck take to build?
It depends on the size and complexity, plus factors like ground conditions and weather. We'll give you a realistic timeframe with your quote so you can plan around it, and we keep you informed if anything changes once we're on site.
Which suburbs do you build decks and carports in?
We cover Brisbane's inner north and northern suburbs from Paddington — including Bardon, The Gap, Ferny Grove, Everton Park, Albany Creek and Petrie. Just outside the area? Ask us and we'll let you know.
Are you licensed and insured for outdoor builds?
Yes. MJN Carpentry is QBCC licensed, a Master Builders Queensland member and fully insured, so your deck or carport is built properly and to standard.
Kitchen Carpentry
How does pricing work for a kitchen carpentry job?
Every kitchen is different, so we quote each one individually. We start with a free on-site measure and a conversation about what you want, then give you a detailed estimate that itemises materials and labour. You see the full picture before any work begins, with no vague figures and no hidden extras once the job is underway.
Can you upgrade my existing kitchen instead of a full replacement?
Absolutely. Plenty of kitchens just need new cabinetry doors, better storage, a fresh benchtop or some smarter shelving rather than a complete rebuild. We're happy to work through what will give you the biggest improvement for your budget, and we'll tell you honestly when an upgrade makes more sense than a full strip-out.
Do you build custom cabinetry or only install flat-pack?
We focus on custom cabinetry built to suit your space, which means we can work around awkward walls, appliances and ceiling heights that off-the-shelf units never quite fit. If you already have flat-pack joinery you'd like installed, we can handle that too — just let us know when you enquire.
How long does a kitchen fitout usually take?
Timing depends on the size of the kitchen and whether it's an upgrade or a full renovation. A straightforward cabinetry and benchtop job moves quickly, while a full strip-out and install takes longer because of the trades involved. We'll give you a realistic schedule with your quote so you can plan around it.
Do you handle benchtop installation?
Yes. Benchtop supply and installation is part of our kitchen service, and we'll make sure it's templated and fitted to line up cleanly with your cabinetry. We can talk you through the material options that suit your kitchen and how you use it.
Do you cover Paddington and the surrounding suburbs?
Yes. We're based in Paddington and work right across Brisbane's inner north and northern suburbs — from Bardon and The Gap through to Albany Creek and Petrie. If you're just outside our usual area, get in touch and we'll let you know.
Are you licensed and insured for kitchen work?
We are. MJN Carpentry is QBCC licensed and a member of Master Builders Queensland, and our team is fully insured. That gives you peace of mind that the work is done properly and to standard.
Bathroom Carpentry
How do you price bathroom carpentry work?
We quote each bathroom individually after a free on-site measure. The estimate itemises materials and labour so you can see exactly what you're paying for. Whether it's a single custom vanity or full bathroom joinery, you get a clear figure upfront before we start.
Can you build a vanity to fit an unusual space?
Yes — that's the main reason to choose custom over off-the-shelf. We build vanities and cabinetry to suit the exact dimensions of your bathroom, working around plumbing, windows and tight corners so the finish looks intentional rather than squeezed in.
Will the carpentry hold up to bathroom moisture?
It will. We select moisture-resistant materials and durable finishes specifically because bathrooms are a demanding environment. Doing this properly is what keeps cabinetry looking good and functioning well for years rather than swelling or peeling.
Do you do carpentry for a full bathroom renovation?
We do the carpentry and joinery side — vanities, cabinetry, shelving and storage — and we're comfortable coordinating our work around the other trades involved in a renovation. Tell us the scope when you enquire and we'll explain how we'd approach it.
Can you add storage to a small bathroom?
Definitely. Small bathrooms are where good carpentry makes the biggest difference. Recessed shelving, slim cabinetry and well-planned vanities can free up a surprising amount of usable space without making the room feel crowded.
Which suburbs do you service for bathroom work?
We're based in Paddington and cover Brisbane's inner north and northern suburbs, including Bardon, Keperra, Stafford, Everton Park, Albany Creek and more. If your suburb isn't listed, contact us and we'll confirm.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. MJN Carpentry is QBCC licensed, a Master Builders Queensland member, and fully insured — so you can be confident the work meets the right standards.
Interior Carpentry & Joinery
How is interior carpentry priced?
We quote each job individually after seeing the space. Wardrobes, staircases and built-in storage all vary depending on size, materials and complexity, so we give you an itemised estimate covering materials and labour after a free measure — never a guess over the phone.
Do you build wardrobes to suit my room?
Yes. We build both built-in and walk-in wardrobes designed around your room's dimensions and how you actually use storage. Custom joinery means sliding doors, shelving and hanging space all fit properly rather than leaving awkward gaps.
Can you install windows and doors?
We do. Window and door installation is part of our interior carpentry service, including hanging doors so they sit and close correctly. If you're replacing tired fittings or adding new ones during a renovation, we can take care of it.
Do you build or repair staircases?
Yes — staircases and balustrades are part of what we do. Whether it's a new staircase as part of a renovation or repairs to an existing one, we'll assess it and explain the right approach for your home.
Can you create built-in storage for a garage or living area?
We can. Garage built-ins, custom shelving and concealed storage are popular projects because they make a real difference to how a home functions. We'll design something that suits the space and the way you live.
What areas do you cover for interior carpentry?
We work across Brisbane's inner north and northern suburbs from our Paddington base — Bardon, The Gap, Ferny Grove, Stafford, Albany Creek and beyond. Contact us if you'd like to confirm your suburb.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. MJN Carpentry is QBCC licensed, a member of Master Builders Queensland and fully insured, so your project is in safe, qualified hands.
Sunrooms & Home Extensions
How do you price a sunroom or extension?
Each addition is quoted individually after a design conversation and an on-site visit. We look at how the new space connects to your existing home, then provide a detailed estimate covering materials and labour so you know the cost before work begins.
Do I need approval for a sunroom or home extension?
Extensions and enclosed additions usually involve building approval, and the requirements depend on the size and how the space is used. We'll explain what's likely to apply to your project during the quote stage and build to the standards required.
Can you match the addition to my existing home?
Yes. A good addition should look like it was always part of the house. We design and build to suit your home's existing style and structure so the new space feels integrated rather than tacked on.
What is the difference between a sunroom and an extension?
A sunroom is typically a light-filled enclosed room that brings the outdoors in, while an extension adds fully integrated living space. We can talk through which suits your goals, your block and your budget when you get in touch.
How long does a home addition take?
Timeframes vary with the size and complexity of the build, plus approvals and weather. We'll give you a realistic schedule with your estimate and keep you informed as the project progresses through each stage.
Which suburbs do you build additions in?
We cover Brisbane's inner north and northern suburbs from Paddington — Bardon, The Gap, Ferny Grove, Everton Park, Albany Creek, Petrie and surrounds. Ask us if your suburb isn't listed.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. MJN Carpentry is QBCC licensed, a member of Master Builders Queensland and fully insured, so your home addition is built properly from the ground up.
