Everything Brisbane homeowners ask us about caring for their lawns and gardens — in one place.
General questions
Which areas of Brisbane does Loukas' Garden Care cover?
We're based in Carindale and look after lawns and gardens right across Brisbane's south-east — including Carina, Carina Heights, Mount Gravatt, Camp Hill, Holland Park, Belmont, Wishart and Mansfield. If you're nearby and not sure whether we reach your street, just give us a call and we'll let you know.
What are your hours?
We're available Monday to Saturday, generally between 7:00am and 5:00pm. If you call or send an enquiry outside those hours we'll get back to you the next business day.
Are you insured and licensed?
Yes. Our team is fully insured and licensed. That covers the work we carry out and means every job is done safely — giving you complete peace of mind.
How do you work out a price?
Garden work like mowing, edging, hedging, weeding and rubbish removal can't be quoted accurately online because there are too many variables — the size of the area, the length and thickness of the grass, how overgrown things are, and the type and volume of any rubbish. That's why we offer a free on-site quote, so the price you're given reflects the real job.
Do you really beat other quotes by 10%?
Yes. As a smaller, family-run business we keep our rates among the most affordable around. If you have proof of a genuine quote for the same work, we'll beat it by 10%.
How do I get a quote or book a job?
Get in touch by phone on 0401 763 165 or through the contact form on this site. Tell us a little about what you need and we'll organise a suitable time to come out, take a look, and give you a free quote.
Do I need to be home when you visit?
Not necessarily. For regular maintenance like mowing, as long as we have access to the garden you don't need to be there. For an initial consultation or design discussion it helps to be home so we can talk through what you want.
What does your quality guarantee cover?
Our quality guarantee means we don't consider a job done until you're genuinely satisfied with the work. It keeps us on the same page as you — so please never be shy to tell us exactly what you want, and we'll make sure that's what you get.
Do you offer regular maintenance as well as one-off jobs?
Both. Many customers book a regular weekly or fortnightly visit so their garden never gets away from them, while others call us in for a one-off tidy, clean-up or project. There's no lock-in — we work to what suits you.
Can you take care of a garden that's been neglected?
Absolutely. Overgrown and neglected gardens are a big part of what we do. The first visit is usually more thorough, and after that it's easy to keep the garden looking great with regular upkeep. We'll explain exactly what's involved at the free on-site quote.
Lawn Mowing
How often should I have my lawn mowed in Brisbane?
It depends on the season and your grass type. Through the warmer, wetter months most Brisbane lawns benefit from a cut every one to two weeks, while growth slows over winter and a longer gap is fine. We'll recommend a rhythm based on how your lawn actually grows, and you can adjust it any time.
Do you offer regular mowing or just one-off visits?
Both. Plenty of our customers book a regular weekly or fortnightly visit so their lawn never gets away from them, but we're just as happy to do a one-off tidy before an event or an inspection. There's no lock-in — you tell us what works.
How is lawn mowing priced?
Mowing can't be quoted accurately online because there are too many variables — the size of the lawn, the length and thickness of the grass, the type of grass and how overgrown the edges are. That's why we offer a free on-site quote, so the price you're given reflects your actual lawn.
Do you catch and remove the clippings?
Yes. We catch the clippings as we mow and take them away as part of the service, so you're left with a clean, finished lawn and nothing to bag up yourself. If you'd prefer clippings mulched back in, just let us know.
Will you edge the lawn as well?
Edging is included in every mow. Clean edges along your paths, driveway and garden beds make the biggest difference to how sharp the whole lawn looks, so we treat it as part of the job rather than an extra.
What if my lawn is very overgrown?
That's no problem at all — we deal with overgrown lawns regularly. The first cut on a long lawn may take extra time and a second pass, and we'll talk you through that at the on-site quote so there are no surprises.
Do I need to be home when you mow?
Not at all. As long as we have access to the lawn, plenty of customers are at work while we visit. We'll let you know when we've been and flag anything we noticed in the garden while we were there.
Hedging & Edging
How often do hedges need trimming?
Most hedges look their best with a trim two to four times a year, depending on the species and how fast they grow. Faster-growing hedges may want a tidy each season, while slower ones can go longer. We'll suggest a schedule based on the hedges you actually have.
Can you reshape a hedge that's become overgrown or woody?
Yes. Overgrown hedges can usually be brought back to a clean shape, though with very woody hedges it sometimes takes a couple of staged trims to encourage fresh, dense growth. We'll have a look at the on-site quote and tell you honestly what's achievable.
How is hedging and edging priced?
Like our other services, hedging and edging can't be quoted accurately online — it depends on the number of hedges, their height and length, how overgrown they are and how much access we have. We'll give you a free on-site quote so the price matches the work.
Do you clean up and remove the clippings?
Always. We clear and remove all hedge trimmings and edging waste as part of the job, so you're left with a tidy result and nothing to dispose of yourself.
Can you edge garden beds as well as paths?
Yes. We define edges between lawn and garden beds, along paths and driveways, and around trees — anywhere a clean line makes the garden look more finished.
Will trimming my hedge regularly keep it healthier?
Generally, yes. Regular trimming encourages hedges to grow dense and even rather than tall, thin and woody, and it lets light into the lower foliage. Keeping to a sensible schedule is one of the simplest ways to keep a hedge looking good for years.
Do you trim hedges at height?
We handle most residential hedges and shaping work. If a hedge or tree is particularly tall or near power lines, we'll let you know at the quote and recommend the safest approach.
Weed Control
How often should weeding be done?
Weeds grow year round in Brisbane, so the best results come from staying on top of them little and often rather than letting them take over. Many customers fold weeding into a regular maintenance visit; others book it as needed. We'll suggest what suits your garden.
Do you hand-weed or use weed treatments?
We use whatever is most appropriate for the area. Garden beds and spots near plants are usually best hand-weeded, while larger paved or gravel areas can be treated to keep them clear for longer. We'll talk through the approach at the quote.
How is weed control priced?
Weeding can't be priced accurately online because it depends on the size of the area, how established the weeds are and the type of surface. We'll give you a free on-site quote once we've seen the garden.
Can you get on top of a garden that's badly overgrown with weeds?
Yes. An overgrown garden simply takes a more thorough first visit to clear, and then it's much easier to keep clean with regular upkeep. We'll let you know at the quote what the initial clean-up involves.
Will you remove the weeds you pull out?
Yes. All weed waste is cleared and removed from site as part of the service, so you're not left with piles to deal with.
Is it better to weed before mulching?
Generally, yes. Clearing weeds before mulching gives the best result, because a good layer of mulch then helps suppress new weeds from coming through. If you're planning to mulch, we can sequence the work so it's done in the right order.
Do you weed around trees and garden features?
Yes. We clear weeds from beds, borders, paths and around trees and features so the whole garden reads as clean and cared for, not just the obvious areas.
Fertilising
How often should a lawn be fertilised?
Most Brisbane lawns benefit from feeding a few times across the year, with the main applications timed to the growing season. The exact rhythm depends on your grass type and the condition of the lawn — we'll recommend a sensible schedule when we see it.
When is the best time to fertilise in Brisbane?
Fertilising generally gives the best results heading into and through the warmer growing months, when the lawn and plants can actually use the feed. We time applications to the season rather than applying on a fixed calendar date, so the lawn gets the most benefit.
How is fertilising priced?
Fertilising is quoted based on the size of the lawn and beds and what they need, so we give you a free on-site quote rather than a price online. We can also fold it into your regular maintenance visits.
Will fertilising fix a patchy or tired lawn?
Fertilising is a big part of bringing a tired lawn back, but lasting results usually come from combining it with the right mowing height, weeding and watering. We'll give you honest advice on what your lawn needs rather than promising a quick fix.
Do I need to water after fertilising?
Watering after fertilising helps the feed reach the roots and reduces any risk of burn. We'll let you know exactly what to do after each application so you get the best result.
Can you fertilise garden beds and plants too, not just the lawn?
Yes. We fertilise established garden beds and plants as well as lawns, so the whole garden gets the feed it needs to stay healthy and look its best.
Is fertilising safe around children and pets?
We apply fertiliser responsibly and will always let you know if there's a short period you should keep children or pets off a treated area. If you have any concerns, just mention it and we'll talk you through it.
Rubbish Removal
What kind of garden rubbish can you remove?
We remove green waste from garden work — grass clippings, hedge and tree prunings, weeds, leaves and similar garden rubbish. If you have a clean-up with a mix of material, just tell us what's there and we'll let you know what we can take.
How is rubbish removal priced?
Rubbish removal simply depends on the type of rubbish and the volume, so it can't be priced accurately online. We'll give you a free on-site quote once we've seen what needs to go.
Do you remove waste as part of your other services?
Yes. Clearing and removing waste is included in our mowing, hedging and weeding services — we don't leave you with piles to deal with. Rubbish removal as a standalone service is for bigger clean-ups or built-up waste.
Can you clear a garden that's been let go?
Definitely. Overgrown and neglected gardens are a big part of what we do. We'll assess it at the on-site quote, give you a clear price for the clean-up and removal, and have it looking tidy again.
Do I need to bag or pile the waste up first?
No need. We handle the clearing and loading ourselves — you don't need to prepare anything. If you have already gathered waste in one spot, that's helpful but certainly not required.
Will you sweep up afterward?
Yes. We sweep down paths and hard surfaces after clearing waste so the area is left genuinely tidy, not just emptied.
Can rubbish removal be combined with a garden tidy-up?
Absolutely — that's how most clean-ups work. We'll do the mowing, weeding, hedging or pruning, then clear and remove all the waste it generates so the whole job is finished in one visit.
Garden Design & Landscaping
Do you design gardens for both homes and businesses?
Yes. We design and create gardens for residential and commercial properties alike. The process is the same either way — we listen to what you want the space to do, then plan a design that suits it.
How does the garden design process work?
It starts with a conversation about what you want from the space. We then visit on site to take measurements and photos, plan a design and planting approach, and write up a quote. Once you're happy, we organise a date and bring the design to life.
How is a garden design or landscaping project priced?
Design and landscaping projects vary enormously, so they're always quoted on site after we've seen the space and understood what you want. The free on-site quote gives you a clear price for the actual project — no guesswork.
Can you work with my ideas, or do you plan it all?
Both. Some customers have a clear picture of what they want and others want us to plan it from scratch. Either way we'll listen first — please never be shy to tell us exactly what you want, because our quality guarantee depends on us being on the same page as you.
Can you redesign an existing garden rather than start from scratch?
Yes. A lot of our design work is reworking tired or overgrown gardens — keeping what's worth keeping and rethinking the rest. We'll talk through what's possible at the on-site visit.
Will you help choose the right plants for my garden?
Yes. Plant choice makes a big difference to how a garden looks and how easy it is to maintain. We'll advise on planting suited to your garden's conditions and how much upkeep you want to take on.
Can you maintain the garden after you've designed it?
Absolutely — and many customers do exactly that. Once your new garden is in, we can keep it looking its best with regular mowing, weeding, hedging and fertilising visits.
What does your quality guarantee mean for a design project?
It means we don't consider the job done until you have exactly what you were looking for. Our quality guarantee keeps us on the same page as you from the first consultation through to the finished garden.
