Plant care beyond mowing

A great garden is built on healthy soil and thriving plants, not just a tidy lawn. Plant maintenance covers everything happening in the garden beds: feeding schedules, pest and disease monitoring, replanting failed specimens, and seasonal preparation.

We work with proven horticultural practices — organic feeding where it makes sense, targeted treatments where pests demand it, and a deep knowledge of what thrives in Brisbane's subtropical climate.

Most plant maintenance happens during a normal maintenance visit; we monitor every plant in the garden and flag anything that needs attention. Larger replant or restoration work is quoted separately.

Questions about plant maintenance

The things customers ask us most often.

How does plant maintenance differ from garden maintenance?

Garden maintenance is the broader package — mowing, edging, weeding, mulching, pruning. Plant maintenance is the specialist layer inside that: feeding, pest treatment, plant health monitoring, replacements. Most clients have both rolled into a single maintenance plan; some hire us for the plant-care layer only and handle mowing themselves.

How often do plants need feeding?

Most Brisbane garden beds benefit from feeding three to four times a year — early spring, mid summer, autumn, and a light winter top-up if needed. We adjust the feed type and rate to the plants in the bed (acid-loving plants get a different mix from formal hedging or natives). It's included in monthly maintenance plans.

Can you save a plant that's clearly struggling?

Often yes — most plant decline has a cause we can identify and address: soil moisture issues, drainage, pH, pest pressure, sunburn, root constraint. A free walk-through of the failing area usually surfaces the cause. Where the plant is past saving, we recommend an appropriate replacement and source it for you.

Do you use organic or chemical treatments?

We start with organic and integrated pest management approaches — soil health, beneficial insects, manual removal — and reach for targeted chemical treatments only when the problem demands it. Anything we apply is approved for residential gardens and applied at the recommended rate with safety protocols. We'll always tell you what we're treating with and why.

Will you source new plants for replacement?

Yes. We have established relationships with wholesale and retail nurseries across SEQ and can source most plant species at trade rates. Replacements are quoted separately from your maintenance plan — you see the per-plant cost before we buy.

Can you advise on what to plant next?

Definitely — picking the right plants for a position is half the battle. During a maintenance visit we can walk the garden with you and suggest species that suit each spot's light, soil, and water profile. For larger replanting (a whole bed or zone), we'll quote a planting design separately.
