Southside. Inner-south renovation — main bathroom and laundry.
An inner-south renovation brought us in for the main family bathroom and laundry. The brief was a moodier finish than typical — dark mosaic feature wall, large-format charcoal floor, and brass tapware.
The technical challenge on this one was the floor-waste. The existing build had the floor-waste set in a corner with falls that didn't actually drain, so the screed had to be lifted and re-poured with proper bi-directional falls to a centrally-placed linear drain. That fix added a day to the install but transformed how the room sheds water.
Wall tile is a 50x50 dark glass mosaic on the feature wall and 600x300 ceramic on the field walls in a stretcher-bond layout to soften the heavier mosaic. Floor is 600x600 porcelain in a charcoal flecked finish. Grout is matched to floor and wall tiles independently, so the joints disappear into the field.
The laundry got the same wall treatment for visual continuity, with a Caesarstone bench above a Fisher & Paykel front-loader. Handover was on schedule, with the room handed back cleaned and a written workmanship guarantee on the full scope.
