Newport. Coastal new-build — indoor-outdoor floor and pool surround.
A coastal new-build at Newport called for a unified indoor-outdoor floor between the living area and a covered alfresco zone, plus a tiled pool surround that had to land within Australian slip-rating requirements without sacrificing the look.
The slab was poured with a recessed alfresco level so the tile heights could match perfectly between inside and out — a detail that has to be coordinated with the building contractor at pre-pour, not retro-fitted later. Inside we ran 1200x600 porcelain on a stack-bond layout; outside, the same format in the 20 mm paver thickness with a complementary surface texture for outdoor slip rating.
The pool surround was the most technical part of the install. Tile around water needs an R-rating that handles bare feet on wet stone, plus drainage detailing that doesn't let water sit at the bond beam. We worked to AS 4654 on the membrane and detailed the perimeter coping to a level edge.
The finished build reads as one continuous floor from kitchen to pool, which is the design language the architects were after — done without compromising either side of the technical brief.
