Frequently asked questions

Everything you might want to know before booking Greenhow Gardening Service.

General questions

What suburbs does Greenhow Gardening Service cover?
We're based around Ashgrove and service a 10km radius of Brisbane's CBD. That takes in most of the inner-northern and inner-western suburbs around us. Keeping our work close to home is deliberate — it's how we stay reliable and turn up when we say we will. If you're unsure whether your street falls inside our area, just send through your suburb when you ask for a quote and we'll confirm straight away.
Are you a large company or a small local business?
We're a small family business, and that's central to how we work. When you book Greenhow Gardening Service you see the same face each and every visit — not a different contractor each time. It means we get to know your garden, you get to know us, and there's a real person who's accountable for the work. For a lot of our customers that consistency is the main reason they stay with us.
Do you offer free quotes?
Yes. Quotes are always free and there's no obligation. Free quotes are available for lawn mowing, hedge trimming, small tree trimming, mulching, pressure washing and more. We'll look at the job, talk through what you'd like done and give you a clear price up front, so you know exactly where you stand before any work starts.
Do you take on one-off jobs or only regular bookings?
Both. Plenty of our customers have us on a regular schedule for ongoing garden maintenance, but we also do once-off visits — and we're happy to tackle lawns or gardens that have become overgrown and need bringing back under control. Whether you want an ongoing arrangement or just a single tidy-up, get in touch and we'll sort out what suits you.
What types of property do you maintain?
We offer regular garden maintenance to residential, strata and commercial properties. Whether it's a family home, a body-corporate complex or a commercial site that needs to stay presentable, we can put together a maintenance plan that keeps it looking its best. Let us know your property type when you get in touch and we'll tailor a quote to it.
How do I get a quote or book a visit?
The easiest way is to fill in the enquiry form on this site with your name, phone number, suburb and a short note about what you'd like done — or give us a call on 0439 028 075. Tell us your suburb so we can confirm you're inside our service area, and roughly what the job involves. We'll get back to you to arrange a free quote and a visit that suits you.
What does GGS stand for?
GGS is simply short for Greenhow Gardening Service — you'll see it used around the site and in conversation. It's the same small family business either way, offering regular garden maintenance across a 10km radius of Brisbane's CBD. Whichever name you see, you're dealing with the same friendly local team.

Lawn Mowing

How often should I have my lawn mowed?
Most Brisbane lawns look their best on a fortnightly cut through the cooler months and weekly through the warm, wet growing season from spring into autumn. When you book regular mowing with us we'll suggest a schedule based on your grass type and how fast it grows, then keep that rhythm so the lawn never gets away from you. You're not locked in — if the lawn slows down we'll space visits out, and you can change the frequency any time. The goal is a tidy lawn every single visit, not a catch-up job every couple of months.
Do you cover Ashgrove and the inner-Brisbane suburbs?
Yes. We're based around Ashgrove and service a 10km radius of Brisbane's CBD, which takes in most of the inner-northern and inner-western suburbs. If you're inside that radius we can almost certainly help — and if you're not quite sure whether your street is covered, send through your suburb when you ask for a quote and we'll let you know straight away. Keeping our work close to home is part of how we stay reliable and turn up when we say we will.
How do you charge for lawn mowing?
We quote each lawn individually because price depends on the size of the area, how the yard is laid out and how often you'd like it done. Regular bookings generally work out better value per visit than one-off cuts, since the lawn stays in good condition and each visit is quicker. Quotes are free and there's no obligation — we'll give you a clear price up front before any work starts, so there are no surprises when the job is done.
What's included in a regular mowing visit?
A standard visit covers mowing the lawn, edging along paths, driveways and garden beds, and blowing down hard surfaces so there are no clippings left on your paths or patio. We tidy as we go and leave the yard looking finished, not half-done. If you'd like extra tasks handled — like whipper-snipping rough areas or a quick weed of the beds — just let us know and we can build that into your visit or quote it separately.
Do I need to be home when you mow?
No. Once we've quoted the job and agreed on access, most of our regular customers aren't home when we visit — we simply let ourselves into the yard, do the work and lock up behind us. Because we're a small family business you'll see the same face each visit, so it's someone you've met and can trust on the property. If you'd prefer to be home for the first visit to walk us around, that's completely fine too.
Can you take on a lawn that's become overgrown?
Absolutely. Overgrown lawns are one of the most common jobs we're called for, whether it's a rental between tenants, a holiday house or a yard that's simply gotten away over a busy stretch. We'll assess it first, sometimes cut it back in stages so we don't stress the grass, and then get it onto a regular schedule if you'd like it kept that way. Tell us roughly how long it's been and we'll factor that into the quote.

Hedge Trimming

How often do hedges need trimming?
It depends on the species and the look you're after, but most Brisbane hedges benefit from two to four trims a year. Fast-growing screening hedges may want a tidy every few months to keep them dense and sharp, while slower formal hedges hold their shape longer. When we quote your hedges we'll suggest a sensible rhythm, and we can fold hedge trimming into your regular garden maintenance visits so it never gets overlooked.
Will trimming damage my hedge?
Done properly, regular trimming actually keeps a hedge healthier — it encourages dense, even growth and stops the plant going woody and bare at the base. We trim to maintain shape rather than cutting back hard into old wood unless that's specifically needed, and we time heavier work for when the plant will recover well. If a hedge has been left a long time we'll talk you through the best approach before we start so you know what to expect.
Do you clean up the clippings?
Yes, always. A hedge trim isn't finished until the mess is gone. We rake and collect the clippings, blow down paths and hard surfaces, and leave the area clean. If there's a large volume of green waste from a big trim we'll let you know in advance so we can factor removal into the quote, rather than leaving a pile behind for you to deal with.
Can you trim tall or hard-to-reach hedges?
We handle most residential hedges, including taller screening hedges along boundaries and fence lines. If a hedge is particularly high or in an awkward spot we'll assess access when we quote and let you know exactly what we can do safely. We'd rather be upfront about what's practical than promise something and not be able to finish it properly.
How do you charge for hedge trimming?
Hedge trimming is quoted on the size and number of hedges, how overgrown they are and how much green waste needs removing. A hedge kept on a regular trim is quicker and cheaper to maintain than one left for a year, so ongoing customers tend to get better value. Quotes are free — we'll look at the job and give you a clear price before any work begins.
Can hedge trimming be part of my regular service?
Definitely. Many of our customers have us look after the whole garden — mowing, edging, hedges and general tidying — on one regular schedule. Folding hedges into your routine visits means they're always kept in shape and you never have to think about booking it separately. Just mention your hedges when you ask for a quote and we'll build them into your plan.

Pressure Washing

What can you pressure wash around my property?
We pressure wash the hard surfaces that pick up dirt, moss and grime over time — driveways, footpaths, garden paths, patios, pool surrounds and house exteriors. Brisbane's humidity means these areas can go green and slippery, especially in shaded spots, so a clean both lifts the look of the property and makes paths safer to walk on. Tell us what you'd like done when you ask for a quote and we'll let you know what we can include.
How often should driveways and paths be cleaned?
For most Brisbane homes, a pressure wash of the driveway and main paths once a year keeps things looking sharp, though shaded or heavily used areas that go green quickly may want it more often. It's a job that's easy to put off, which is why a lot of our customers simply have us do it on a set schedule. We can quote it as a one-off or build it into your regular garden maintenance.
Will pressure washing damage my surfaces?
We match the pressure and technique to the surface so we clean effectively without causing damage. Concrete and pavers handle a firm clean, while more delicate surfaces are treated with more care. If we have any concern about a particular surface we'll talk it through with you first. The aim is a surface that looks refreshed and even, not patchy or pitted.
Do you cover Ashgrove and surrounding suburbs for pressure washing?
Yes. Pressure washing is offered across the same area as the rest of our work — a 10km radius of Brisbane's CBD, centred around Ashgrove. If you'd like your driveway, paths or patio cleaned, just include your suburb when you get in touch and we'll confirm we can reach you. It's an easy add-on if we're already looking after your lawn and gardens.
How do you price pressure washing?
Pressure washing is quoted on the size of the area and how much build-up needs lifting — a lightly soiled path is quick, while a large driveway that's gone green takes longer. We'll look at the job and give you a free, no-obligation quote up front. If you'd like it done alongside mowing or hedge work we can often make the visit more efficient and price it accordingly.
Can pressure washing be combined with my garden visits?
Yes, and it often makes sense to. If we're already maintaining your lawn and gardens, adding an occasional pressure wash of the driveway and paths keeps the whole property looking cared for without you having to organise a separate trade. Mention it when you book or quote and we'll work it into your schedule at a sensible interval.
