What suburbs does Dexter's cover?
Dexter's runs a local round across Brisbane's northern suburbs — Alderley, Mitchelton, Everton Hills, Everton Park, Bunya, Keperra, Stafford Heights, Ferny Hills and Upper Kedron. If you're in a neighbouring suburb, get in touch and ask — we'll let you know if we can reach you.
What are your hours?
We're generally on the tools Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 2:30pm, and Saturday mornings from 8:30am to 2:00pm. After-hours contact can be arranged for quotes and enquiries — the easiest thing is to send a message any time and we'll get back to you.
Is Dexter's owner-operated?
Yes. Dexter's Lawn Mowing Service is owner-operated by Redeno — the same person quotes your job and does your job. There's no call centre and no rotating crew, just consistent, reliable lawn care from someone who knows your yard.
How do I get a quote?
Call us or send a message through the contact page with your suburb and a quick note on what your yard needs. We'll take a look and give you a clear, fixed price before any work starts — no obligation and no pushy sales.
What payment methods do you accept?
We keep it easy — cash, EFTPOS and card (Mastercard and Visa) are all welcome, and bank transfer can be arranged. We'll confirm the details with you when the job's booked.
Do I need to be home for the job?
Usually not. As long as we have safe access to the area — for example an unlocked side gate — we can do the work while you're out and let you know once it's finished.
Can I book a one-off job instead of a regular service?
Yes. You can book a single mow or cleanup whenever you need one, or set up a regular round to stay on top of it. There's no lock-in contract either way.
Do you use chemical sprays on lawns?
No — we don't put chemical sprays on your grass. Our focus is careful, straightforward mowing and maintenance with well-kept equipment.
Lawn Mowing
How much does lawn mowing cost?
Pricing depends on the size of your lawn, how much there is to cut and how often it's done. Rather than guessing, we look at your yard and give you a clear, fixed quote before any work starts — so the price you're told is the price you pay. Regular rounds usually work out better value than one-off visits, because the lawn never gets away on you.
Do you mow lawns in my suburb?
We run a local round across Brisbane's northern suburbs — Alderley, Mitchelton, Everton Hills, Everton Park, Bunya, Keperra, Stafford Heights, Ferny Hills and Upper Kedron. If you're on the edge of that area or in a neighbouring suburb, just ask when you get in touch and we'll let you know.
How often should my lawn be mowed?
Through Brisbane's warmer, wetter months most lawns do best with a cut every one to two weeks, while in the cooler season the grass slows right down and a monthly tidy is often enough. We can recommend a rhythm for your lawn and set up a regular schedule so it never gets overgrown.
Do you bring your own equipment?
Yes. We arrive with everything needed for the job — mower, line trimmer, edger and blower — all kept in good working order. You don't need to provide anything or have any gear of your own.
Do you use chemical sprays on the grass?
No. We don't put chemical sprays on your lawn. The focus is straightforward, careful mowing and maintenance with well-kept equipment, keeping your grass neat without treatments you didn't ask for.
Do I need to be home when you mow?
Not at all. As long as we can get safe access to the lawn — for example an unlocked side gate — we can mow while you're out and let you know once it's done. Plenty of our regular customers are at work when we visit.
What happens to the grass clippings?
For a routine mow the clippings are usually mulched back in or cleared off paths and hard surfaces so everything looks tidy. If you'd like the clippings bagged or taken away, just mention it when you book and we'll sort it out.
Can I book a one-off mow instead of a regular service?
Absolutely. You're welcome to book a single mow — handy before a party, an inspection or selling the place — or set up a regular round to keep on top of it. There's no lock-in either way.
Whipper Snipping & Edging
What's the difference between whipper snipping and edging?
Whipper snipping (line trimming) tidies the spots a mower can't reach — around fences, posts, trees and tight corners. Edging creates the crisp, defined line where your lawn meets paths, driveways and garden beds. Together they're what makes a freshly mown lawn actually look finished.
Is edging included when you mow my lawn?
Edging and line trimming are a normal part of a proper lawn service, and we'll talk through exactly what's included when we quote your job. The aim is always a complete, tidy result — not just the open lawn cut and the edges left ragged.
Do you edge driveways, paths and footpaths?
Yes. We edge along driveways, internal paths, footpaths and around garden beds so every hard edge has a clean, straight line. It's one of the quickest ways to make a whole yard look sharper.
My edges haven't been done in a long time — can you still fix them?
We can. Edges that have been left for months tend to be overgrown with grass creeping over the concrete. The first cut takes a little longer to bring the line back, but once it's re-established it's easy to keep crisp on each regular visit.
Do you trim around obstacles and garden beds?
Yes. Line trimming gets in around trees, fence lines, retaining walls, posts, taps and the borders of garden beds — all the awkward spots a mower simply can't reach.
How long does edging and whipper snipping take?
It depends on how much edge and how many obstacles your yard has, and whether the edges are already maintained or overgrown. We factor it into the quote up front, so you'll know the full picture before we start.
Garden Cleanup
My yard is really overgrown — can you still help?
Yes — overgrown yards are a normal part of what we do. Whether the grass has got away after a wet spell, a rental is between tenants, or the place just hasn't been touched in a while, we can cut it back, tidy it up and get it back to a manageable state.
Do you take the green waste away?
We can clear and remove green waste as part of a cleanup — let us know how much there is when you get in touch so we can include it properly in your quote. For a routine mow, clippings are generally mulched or cleared on the spot.
Do you do weeding as part of a cleanup?
Yes. A garden cleanup can include weeding garden beds and clearing weeds from along edges and pathways, so the whole space looks cared-for rather than just the lawn being cut.
How is a garden cleanup priced?
Cleanups vary a lot depending on the size of the area, how overgrown it is and how much waste needs removing — so we quote them after taking a look. You'll get a clear, fixed price before we start, with no surprises at the end.
Can you do a one-off tidy-up before an inspection or sale?
Definitely. A one-off cleanup before a rental inspection, an open home or a special occasion is a common request. Give us as much notice as you can and we'll do our best to get you booked in.
Do you remove small palm trees?
Removal of small palm trees can be arranged — mention it when you get in touch and we'll talk through what's involved and include it in your quote so you know the cost up front.
Do you handle hedge and shrub clippings too?
Yes. If a cleanup includes cutting back hedges or shrubs, the trimmings are gathered up as part of the job so you're not left with piles of cuttings to deal with afterwards.
Hedge Trimming
How often should hedges be trimmed?
Most hedges look their best with a trim once or twice a year, though fast-growing varieties in Brisbane's warm climate can need it more often. Regular trimming keeps a hedge dense and well-shaped rather than woody and uneven — we can suggest a timing that suits yours.
Do you shape hedges or just cut them back?
Both. We can maintain a hedge's existing shape on a regular trim, or cut back and reshape one that's lost its form. The goal is always a tidy, even finish that lifts the look of the whole garden.
Can you reduce the height of an overgrown hedge?
In most cases, yes. An overgrown hedge can usually be brought down and back into shape, though a hard cut-back is sometimes best staged so the plant stays healthy. We'll take a look and talk you through the best approach for your hedge.
Do you clean up the trimmings afterwards?
Yes. Clearing up the cuttings is part of the job — we gather the trimmings so you're left with a neat hedge and a clean space, not a mess to deal with yourself.
What types of hedges and shrubs do you trim?
We trim the common hedge and shrub varieties found around Brisbane homes — from low border hedges to taller screening hedges. Let us know roughly what you've got and how big it is when you ask for a quote.
Can hedge trimming be done with my regular mow?
Yes — combining hedge trimming with your regular lawn visit is an efficient way to keep the whole garden looking sharp. Just let us know and we'll factor it into your schedule and quote.
