About AMSCO

What suburbs do you cover?

We're based in Albion (inner-northern Brisbane) and work across the inner and inner-northern suburbs — Paddington, Ashgrove, Windsor, Bardon, Red Hill, Milton, Albion, Wilston, Newstead, Fortitude Valley, Spring Hill, Toowong, Auchenflower, Hamilton, Clayfield, Wooloowin and the surrounding areas. We can also reach the wider South East Queensland for larger jobs by arrangement. If you're not sure whether you're in our area, call and ask — we'll let you know either way.

What hours do you operate?

Our office hours are 7am – 5pm Monday to Friday. Within those hours we respond to quote enquiries within 24 hours, and we send someone out as fast as we can for breakdowns and faults. Outside business hours, leave a message and someone will pick it up the next morning. For genuine after-hours emergencies (sparking, burning smell, complete power loss) call anyway — we monitor the line and will prioritise where we can.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Queensland Electrical Contractors Licence 74698 for electrical work, and ARC Licence AU51008 for refrigerant handling on air-conditioning jobs. Public liability insurance is in place, and every job is performed by a qualified electrician — not a labourer or apprentice working unsupervised. ABN 69 158 443 808. If a body corporate, insurer, or landlord ever asks for licence and insurance details, we'll provide them on request.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept bank transfer (EFT) for all jobs, and credit card payments are available on request. For domestic work we typically invoice on completion with payment due within 14 days. For commercial and industrial accounts we can set up a standing arrangement with monthly statements. We don't ask for deposits on standard residential work — if it's a larger fit-out or new-build, we'll have a discussion about progress payments before the job starts.

How do I get a quote?

Three options: call 0427 932 266 during office hours, fill in the form on this site, or email admin@amsco.com.au. For most jobs we can quote from a description and a couple of photos; for larger or more complex work we'll come out for a free site assessment. Either way, we get back to you within 24 hours, and you'll see the price in writing before we book the job in.

Do you offer warranties on your work?

Yes. All our workmanship is covered — if something we've installed or repaired develops a fault because of how we did the work, we come back and put it right at no charge. Manufacturer warranties on the equipment itself depend on the brand, but we'll register the warranty on your behalf for any new install where that applies. We're 100% compliant with the QLD electrical safety regulations, and that compliance is backed by Licence 74698.

Domestic Electrical

Do you cover Paddington and the inner-Brisbane suburbs?

Yes. AMSCO is based in Albion and works across the inner-Brisbane area — Paddington, Ashgrove, Windsor, Bardon, Red Hill, Milton and the surrounding suburbs are part of our regular coverage. We can also reach the wider South East Queensland for larger jobs by arrangement. If you're inside that loop, expect a same-week response in most cases; outside it, give us a call and we'll talk through timing before we book you in.

Will you give me a quote before starting work?

Yes — quotes are free and we aim to get back to you within 24 hours of your enquiry. For most domestic jobs we'll either price it from your description and a few photos, or come out and assess the job in person if it's larger or more complex. Either way, you'll see the price before we start, with no surprise extras at the end. Call 0427 932 266 or use the quote form on this site to get the conversation going.

Are your electricians licensed and insured?

Yes. AMSCO holds Queensland Electrical Contractors Licence 74698, and our refrigeration work is covered by ARC Licence AU51008. Every job is performed by a qualified, registered electrician and is fully insured. We're 100% compliant with QLD wiring rules and standards — if a defect notice ever lands on a job we've done, we come back and put it right at no extra cost.

What kinds of domestic electrical jobs do you take on?

Pretty much anything residential. We handle power and lighting, switchboard upgrades, rewires, ceiling fan installs, garden and security lighting, phone and data points, hot water systems, oven, cooktop and rangehood installs, and any other appliance hard-wiring. Renovation electrical, new-build rough-ins and final fits, fault-finding on dodgy circuits — we cover the lot. If you're not sure whether it's something we do, call and ask. We'll either book it in or point you to someone better placed.

Can you upgrade my old switchboard?

Yes — switchboard and mains upgrades are one of the most common jobs we do on older Brisbane homes. Older boards with ceramic fuses or no safety switches don't meet current standards and won't trip when something goes wrong. We replace them with a modern enclosure, RCBOs (combined safety switch + circuit breaker), and properly labelled circuits. Upgrades typically run a single day on-site and usually involve a brief power outage while we change over the mains.

How quickly can you respond to an electrical fault?

Our office hours are 7am – 5pm Monday to Friday, and during those hours we aim to respond to enquiries the same day. For genuine emergencies — power out across the whole property, sparking, or burning smells from outlets — call us on 0427 932 266 and we'll prioritise the visit. Outside office hours, leave a message and someone will get back to you the next morning. If a fault is dangerous and immediate, isolate the affected circuit at the switchboard and we'll work through it with you on the phone.

What do I need to do before you turn up?

Not much. If we're working in a specific room, clear access to the area you want changed (move furniture, lift rugs near the workpoint). If we're touching the switchboard, expect a temporary power outage — finish anything time-sensitive on computers or fridges before we arrive. We bring all our own tools, parts and consumables. If you've already bought fittings or lights you want installed, leave them out where we can see them on arrival.

Industrial Electrical

What types of industrial sites do you work on?

Plant rooms, factories, warehouses, workshops, processing facilities, and small-to-medium industrial premises across Brisbane. We handle three-phase power, motor and machinery wiring, mains and switchboard upgrades, distribution-board work, controls and PLC connections, machine relocations, and the ongoing electrical maintenance of production equipment. If you've got a specific industrial system or controls problem you need looked at, give us a call — we'll send someone with the right ticket and experience.

Are your electricians qualified for three-phase and industrial work?

Yes. We hold Queensland Electrical Contractors Licence 74698, and the team includes electricians experienced specifically with three-phase, industrial machinery and controls. Industrial work is a different discipline to residential, and we put trades on jobs they're trained for — that's part of what we mean when we say we send the right person for the job.

Can you work around our production schedule?

Yes. Most industrial clients can't shut down during business hours, so we plan around your operating windows. After-hours, weekend, or staged-shutdown work is something we do regularly. We'll walk through the job with your maintenance contact, identify the critical isolations, and put a sequence together that minimises downtime. Quote stage is when we lock in those windows so there are no surprises on the day.

Do you provide ongoing electrical maintenance?

Yes. We run scheduled-maintenance arrangements for industrial and commercial clients — periodic switchboard inspections, thermal imaging on hot-running boards, RCD testing, lighting-system audits, and any other compliance items relevant to your insurer or regulator. The cadence is whatever suits the site (monthly, quarterly, six-monthly). Office hours are 7am – 5pm Monday to Friday but maintenance windows are scheduled to suit the site.

Can you handle urgent breakdowns?

Yes. If a piece of plant goes down and it's blocking production, get on the phone — 0427 932 266 — and we'll prioritise it. We aim to get someone qualified on-site as quickly as we can within business hours. For sites with established contracts, we'll have a primary contact and known site access already in place, which cuts response time considerably.

Are you set up for compliance and certification work?

Yes. Every installation gets a Certificate of Testing and Compliance per the QLD Electrical Safety Office requirements — that's not optional, it's part of being licensed. For ongoing compliance (RCD testing, switchboard audits, thermal imaging) we issue a written report with each visit so you've got a paper trail for your insurer or auditor. Licence number 74698 for the contractor, ARC AU51008 for refrigeration.

Do you do machine relocations?

Yes. When a piece of plant moves to a new position on the floor — or to a new building — we handle the disconnection from existing supply, the new cabling and isolator, the fit-off at the new location, and the test-and-tag on the recommissioned circuit. Coordination with the rigging or moving crew is part of what we do. Quote stage covers the prep and the disconnect/reconnect windows so the move runs to schedule.

Commercial Electrical

Do you do shop fit-out electrical?

Yes. Retail and office fit-outs are a regular part of what we do — power and data layouts, point-of-sale wiring, lighting design and install, exit and emergency lighting, switchboard alterations for the new tenancy, and the certification at the end. We can work directly with you, your shopfitter, or your project manager. If we're brought in early, we can save you trouble by spotting things in the lease/landlord requirements before they become a delay.

Can you handle body corporate and strata electrical?

Yes. We do body-corporate common-property work — corridor and stairwell lighting, basement-carpark lighting and ventilation, intercom system service, sub-board upgrades, and the periodic electrical compliance items. We'll deal with the body corporate manager or committee chair directly, attach quotes that match your AGM-decision wording, and provide certificates and reports for the records.

Are you across emergency and exit-light testing?

Yes. Emergency and exit lighting in commercial premises must be tested every six months and overhauled every twelve under AS/NZS 2293.2 — we do those tests on a schedule and provide the written log book each time. Failed batteries and lamps are replaced on the spot where possible; anything that needs a return visit is scheduled before we leave. Quotes for first-time setups include the log book and a proper compliance plate at each fitting.

Do you install and service air conditioning for offices and shops?

Yes. We hold the relevant ARC Licence (AU51008) for refrigerant handling, so we install and service split systems, ducted, and cassette air conditioning across commercial premises. For larger sites we run scheduled maintenance — filter cleans, coil checks, refrigerant pressure tests — on whatever cadence makes sense for the building. Breakdown response is the same as our electrical service.

Can you work outside business hours so we don't have to close?

Yes — most retail and hospitality clients prefer after-hours work, and a fair share of our commercial jobs run on evenings or weekends. We'll quote those windows specifically (after-hours rates apply) and coordinate with your security, alarm, and any building-access requirements before the visit. The trade-off is usually zero customer-facing disruption, which most businesses are happy to pay for.

Do you provide certificates of compliance?

Every job we complete in Queensland gets a Certificate of Testing and Compliance — that's a legal requirement for licensed electrical work, not an optional extra. We file the original with the QLD Electrical Safety Office and provide you with a copy for your records. If your insurer or landlord ever asks for proof the work was done by a licensed contractor, that's the document. Licence 74698.

What's the response time for a commercial breakdown?

During office hours (7am – 5pm Monday to Friday) we aim to get someone to you the same day for genuine breakdowns. For after-hours commercial emergencies, give us a ring — 0427 932 266 — and we'll arrange the fastest response we can. For sites we look after on a regular basis, we'll usually have you back up faster because we already know the switchboard, the layout, and where the access points are.

Air Conditioning

What types of air conditioning do you install?

Reverse-cycle split systems, multi-head splits, ducted systems, and cassette systems for commercial premises. We work with all major brands (Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Fujitsu, Panasonic, etc.) — the right unit depends on the room size, layout, insulation and how you use the space. Quotes include the unit recommendation, install scope, the electrical rough-in if needed, and post-install commissioning.

Are you licensed to handle refrigerant?

Yes — handling refrigerant requires an ARC (Australian Refrigeration Council) licence, and we hold ARC Licence AU51008. That covers the install, service, and decommission of any refrigerant-containing system. We also hold Queensland Electrical Contractors Licence 74698 for the electrical side — both are required for a complete air-conditioning install, which is why some jobs need a sparkie and a refrigeration mechanic; we can do both in one visit.

Can you service my existing air con even if you didn't install it?

Yes. A good chunk of our service work is on units we didn't install — older systems, ones the original installer no longer covers, or ones the previous owner of the property put in. We'll inspect, clean filters and coils, check refrigerant pressures, test the electrical side, and let you know what (if anything) needs attention. If a unit is past its useful life we'll tell you straight rather than keep patching it.

How often should I have my air conditioner serviced?

For a residential split system, once a year is generally enough — that's a filter clean, a coil check, and a pressure test. Commercial cassettes and ducted systems running heavier hours benefit from a six-monthly service. The two biggest signs your system needs a look are a noticeable drop in cooling or heating performance and an increase in running cost — both usually mean dirty coils or low refrigerant.

Can you take care of breakdowns and repairs?

Yes. Breakdowns get the same priority response as our electrical service — call 0427 932 266 and we'll get to you as fast as we can during office hours. Most failures fall into one of three categories: an electrical issue (control board, capacitor, contactor), a refrigerant issue (low charge, leak), or a blocked condensate line. We carry common parts on the van and can usually do the fix the same visit.

Do you do ducted-system installs?

Yes. Ducted is more involved than split — you've got the indoor unit (typically in the roof space), the outdoor condenser, the ductwork run to each room, the controller, and the dedicated electrical supply. We'll size the unit to your home, plan the duct layout to suit the roof space and zoning preferences, and handle the install end-to-end. Quote stage covers the unit selection, the install scope, and the ducting plan so there are no surprises.

What about commercial maintenance contracts?

We run scheduled-maintenance arrangements for commercial clients — typically quarterly or six-monthly visits with filter cleans, coil checks, refrigerant pressure tests, and a written report. The cadence depends on how hard the system runs. A retail shopfront with a single split runs differently to a server room with redundant cassettes; the contract is sized to suit. Once we've seen the site we can quote a plan that matches your needs.
